The United States women’s national soccer team is returning to the South Bay.

U.S. Soccer announced Saturday that PayPal Park in San Jose will host the U.S women’s national team on April 11. It will be the first of three matches in the April international window against Japan, a longtime rival that has been a part of some of the most famous games in USWNT history.

The match will take place at 2:30 p.m. PayPal Park hosted both the United States men’s and women’s senior national teams in 2025, staging the USWNT’s Olympic gold medal rematch against Brazil in April before hosting Concacaf Gold Cup action between the USMNT and Trinidad and Tobago in June.

“Japan is one of the best teams in the world,” U.S. head coach Emma Hayes said in a news release. “I’m a big admirer of how they play and I have tremendous respect for their team and identity.”

The April 11 match will mark the USA’s sixth all-time match at PayPal Park, where the team is 5-1-0 and has consistently played in front of large crowds. The most recent match at PayPal was the USA’s first loss at the venue, a 2-1 setback to Brazil on April 8, 2025, when the U.S. started its least experienced starting 11 in the past 25 years.

The U.S. will also face Japan on April 14 in Seattle and April 17 in Commerce City, Colorado.

Presales for the match begin on Monday and run through Thursday. Bay FC season ticket members will have presale access to match tickets beginning Tuesday at 10 a.m., with additional presale opportunities for Bay FC fans opening Wednesday. The public sale for all venues will commence on Thursday.

NHL

Jason Tucker scored twice and Alex Lyon stopped 26 shots and tied a Buffalo record with his ninth straight victory as the Sabres beat the New York Islanders 5-0.

Tage Thompson, Rasmus Dahlin and Alex Tuch also scored as the Sabres won their third straight and for the fifth time in seven games. Ryan McLeod and Mattias Samuelsson each had two assists.

Buffalo improved to 18-3-1 in its last 22 games.

Mammoth 5, Predators 2: Kailer Yamamoto had a goal and an assist and the Utah Mammoth extended their winning streak to five games with a road victory over Nashville.

Clayton Keller, Michael Carcone, Barrett Hayton and JJ Peterka also scored, Mikhail Sergachev had three assists and Karel Vejmelka made 27 saves for Utah.

GOLF

Blades Brown looked well beyond his 18 years under increasing attention. He finished with three straight birdies that left him tied with world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler, both are one shot behind Si Woo Kim going into the final round of The American Express at La Quinta.

Kim had a 6-under 66 and the advantage of playing La Quinta Country Club as the wind finally arrived in the Coachella Valley. Scheffler and Brown were on the Stadium Course at PGA West, the most difficult even in calm conditions. Each shot a 68 in a much different fashion.

Kim was at 22-under 194, with Scheffler and Brown right behind. They all will be part of the final group today on the Stadium Course.

The teen is the most compelling. For a sport that has 165 years of championship golf behind it, the records can be a little messy. Brown could become the youngest winner in nearly a century, probably longer.

MLB

All-star third baseman and American League MVP finalist José Ramírez agreed to a seven-year, $175 million deal to remain with the Cleveland Guardians, multiple sources reported.

The 33-year old native of the Dominican Republic has played his entire 13-year, big league career in Cleveland. He was signed through the 2028 season. He had three years and $69 million remaining on the extension he signed in 2022, but will now average $25 million over the next seven years.

SKIING

Mikaela Shiffrin is back on a World Cup giant slalom podium after two years. And she could have hardly picked a better moment to do so.

The American star finished third at Spindleruv Mlyn, Czech Republic, in the last GS before the Milan Cortina Olympics.

The race was won by defending Olympic champion Sara Hector, who held on to her opening run lead for her first victory since January 2025.

FIGURE SKATING

U.S. pairs champions Alisa Efimova and Misha Mitrofanov underscored exactly what the American team could be missing at the Milan Cortina Olympics when they rallied to win the Four Continents Figure Skating Championships in Beijing.

Efimova and Mitrofanov were in third place, nearly five points back of China’s Sui Wenjing and Han Cong, after the short program. But they rallied to win the free skate and finished with 205.34 points, while Sui and Han — who will be trying to defend their Olympic title when they get to Milan in less than two weeks — slipped to second with 200.99 points.

Yuna Nagaoka and Sumitada Moriguchi of Japan fell from second to third with 197.46 points.
