High winds forced delays, cancellations at airport

More than 900 flights were delayed at Denver International Airport, and arriving flights were more than an hour late because of wind and weather as thunderstorms rolled across northern Colorado Wednesday afternoon.

There were 924 flights delayed at DIA as of 8:32 p.m., according to the flight tracking website FlightAware. Most of the delays were on Southwest and United airlines.

The airport was on a traffic management program, and departing flights were delayed by up to an hour and 45 minutes because of wind, according to the Federal Aviation Administration.

The delays resolved by Wednesday night, according to the agency.

National Weather Service forecasters reported wind gusts of 47 mph at 2:45 p.m.

Also a tornado touched down in eastern Adams County on Wednesday afternoon, according to the weather service.

A tornado was spotted near Leader, 30 miles southwest of Fort Morgan, at 2:10 p.m.

One killed, four injured in multivehicle crash on I-25

A person has died and four others were injured Tuesday evening after a multivehicle crash on Interstate 25 in Thornton, according to the Thornton Police Department.

The crash, which briefly closed I-25 at 136th Avenue, is believed to have been caused by a driver who went the wrong way in a northbound lane, said Officer Joe Walker, spokesman for the police department.

The driver, an adult man, died in the crash, he said.

Four other people were taken to a hospital.

The severity of their injuries were unclear; a spokesperson for the police department could not immediately be reached Wednesday morning.

Man found shot at condo complex dies from wounds

A man died after police found him with a gunshot wound outside of a condo complex in the City Center North neighborhood on Tuesday night, according to the Aurora Police Department.

Officers responded to 14323 E. First Drive just before 6 p.m. for a call about a shooting and found the man inside a vehicle, Aurora police said in a news release Wednesday.

The man was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries and later died.

Police did not release any suspect information on Wednesday.

The man will be identified by the Arapahoe County coroner’s office.
