After taking a visit to TCO Performance Center on Tuesday, edge rusher Kyle Van Noy has signed with the Vikings via the practice squad. The expectation is that he gets promoted to the active roster as soon as he’s acclimated.

The move helps the Vikings bolster depth at a position group that needed it. There wasn’t much proven talent aside from edge rushers Andrew Van Ginkel and Dallas Turner on the depth chart.

That’s no longer an issue with Van Noy, 35, being added to the mix. He has played 173 games in his career, spending time with the Detroit Lions, New England Patriots, Miami Dolphins, New England Patriots, Los Angeles Chargers and Baltimore Ravens.

“A veteran presence at a premier position,” general manager Nolan Teasley said. “He fits well into the system because of the way that he rushes and the way that we rush.”

It was long assumed throughout training camp that the Vikings would add an edge rusher at some point, especially after Tyler Batty landed on injured reserve after suffering a torn anterior cruciate ligament.

It shouldn’t be hard for Van Noy to adapt to the system defensive coordinator Brian Flores likes to run. The two crossed paths during their shared time with the Patriots and Dolphins.

After starting his career more so as a linebacker that ran sideline to sideline, Van Noy morphed into an edge rusher that wreaked havoc on opposing quarterbacks. He has amassed 561 tackles and 57 sacks in his career.
