San Rafael, CA
Maron Moses of San Rafael, CA, passed away peacefully at home on February 26, 2025 at the age of 85. Maron, the eldest son of Maron Moses, Sr. and Mary Wakim Moses, was born in Wheeling, WV, and grew up in Charleston, WV. His maternal and paternal grandparents were Lebanese immigrants. Maron was deeply proud of his heritage and had a passion for cooking his family's Lebanese recipes and sharing these dishes with friends.
Maron graduated from West Virginia State College in 1963 and received his Bachelor of Laws degree from West Virginia University in 1966. After practicing law for a short time in Charleston, he moved to Denver, Colorado, where he established a general law practice. He loved the mountains and enjoyed all that the outdoors had to offer - skiing, biking, hiking, canoeing, and camping. It was here that he met his first wife Mary Kaye Reich and her young children Tara and Brendan. The family later moved to San Diego and then to Phoenix.
Maron often would say that what he liked to do most was "to read, to write, and to think." While in Phoenix, he had the opportunity to do those things and wrote two books: The Bible According to Moses, a literal interpretation of the Old Testament stories, and Thoughts for a New Age, a collection of ideas encouraging our search for meaning and understanding by looking within, rather than outside ourselves. Although unpublished, writing these books was an intrinsically important accomplishment for him.
Maron moved to San Francisco when his marriage ended in 1989. He made a career change, too. He previously had renovated several houses of his own and soon became a general contractor. Maron had a gift for simplifying complex problems, and remodeling older homes became his specialty. At work, as well as in his everyday life, his integrity and good humor were always present. Often after projects were completed, his clients had become lasting friends.
Maron met his second wife, Betty Jennings, a flight attendant, while remodeling a friend's home in San Rafael. After a long committed relationship, they married in 2001. With their mutual love of travel, they took many trips together exploring the world. He always welcomed a new adventure.
Maron charted his own course and embraced life to the fullest. He had an inquisitive mind and was curious about matters both big and small. Most of all, Maron cherished his family and friends. He leaves with us an enduring legacy of friendship and love.
In addition to Betty, Maron is survived by his son Brendan, sisters Martha, Marcella, Kay, and four nieces. He was predeceased by his daughter Tara, sisters Margaret Rose, Mary Clare, Dr. Marion, and brother Martin.
Maron's family will be forever grateful to the nurses and staff of By the Bay Hospice for their outstanding care and compassion. A celebration of Maron's life will be held at a later date.
