Devon Malcolm had 20 points and six rebounds, Dominique Daniels Jr. had 20 points as the California Baptist men’s basketball team beat Utah Tech 84-72 in a Western Athletic Conference matchup on Thursday night at the Fowler Events Center in Riverside.
Malcolm added four steals and Daniels Jr. shot 8 of 16 from the field for the Lancers (11-6, 1-3 WAC). Martel Williams added 17 points.
Ethan Potter had 20 points and nine rebounds to lead the Trailblazers (9-8, 2-1).
CSU Bakersfield 67, UC Riverside 66: Dailin Smith had 30 ipoints, five rebounds and four steals for the Roadrunners (8-9, 2-3 Big West Conference) late Thursday in Bakersfield.
Marqui Worthy Jr. had 19 points, Andrew Henderson added 18 points, and BJ Kolly had nine points, 11 rebounds and four blocks for the Highlanders (6-10, 1-3).
UCR led 35-31 at halftime as by as many as 59-50 with 7:19 to play before giving up a 17-7 run to end it.
Worthy’s layup tied the score at 66-66 with 1:09 in regulation and Mark Tom’s free-throw with 47 seconds left made the difference. UCR had two shots at the end but was unable to score.
No. 12 Michigan State 76, Northwestern 66: Carson Cooper had 18 points and nine rebounds, and Jeremy Fears Jr. scored all of his 15 points in the second half on Thursday for the host Spartans (14-2, 4-1 Big Ten), who trailed by seven at halftime and eight in the second half before rallying to win. Nick Martinelli scored 28 for the Wildcats (8-7, 0-4).
No. 8 Gonzaga 89, Santa Clara 77: Graham Ike had 34 points and 11 rebounds as the host Bulldogs (17-1, 5-0 West Coast Conference) shook off a sluggish first half and won their 10th straight game since getting blown out by No. 2 Michigan in late November. Allen Graves had 18 points for the Broncos (13-5, 4-1).
No. 16 Illinois 81, Rutgers 55: Keaton Wagler had 17 points and seven rebounds and Tomislav Ivisic had 14 points for the host Illini (12-3, 3-1 Big Ten) on Thursday night. Kaden Powers had 12 points for Rutgers (8-8, 1-4).
WOMEN’S HIGHLIGHTS
UC Riverside 64, CSU Bakersfield 42: Hannah Wickstrom had 24 points and Maya Cho- cano had 13 points and eight rebounds for the host Highlanders on Thursday night.
Kaylani Polk added 13 points and Seneca Hackley had eight points and nine rebounds for UCR (5-9, 3-1 BWC). Marley Langi had 11 points for Bakersfield (5-10 0-5).
California Baptist 75, Utah Tech 67: Khloe Lemon had 18 points to lead four in double-figure scoring as the visiting Lancers won the WAC game Thursday night.
Lauren Olsen and Shawnee Nordstrom each had 16 points and Filipa Barros had 11 points and 12 rebounds for the Lancers (10-7, 4-0). Maddie Warren had 16 points and six rebounds for Utah Tech (5-8, 0-3).
