Aptos High’s girls basketball team lost 35-28 to River City of West Sacramento in the consolation semifinals at the Aptos/Santa Cruz Warriors NorCal Tournament at Kaiser Permanente Arena on Friday.

Aptos committed 34 turnovers.

Senior Berkeley Ashby had 11 points and seven rebounds, both team-high totals for the Mariners. Junior Abby Sherwood scored eight points, and sophomore Eliya Chavez scored six points.

The Mariners trailed 23-9 at the half and outscored their opponent 9-2 in the fourth quarter.Sophomore guard Tillie Talani made three 3-pointers and six free throws and finished with 17 points for the Raiders (5-8). Sophomore guard Nevaeh Jordan and senior Marina Bahrami each chipped in with nine points.

Aptos (7-3) faces Westmont (5-4) of Campbell in the seventh-place game on Saturday at 9:30 a.m.

The Warriors lost to Los Altos 30-22 in the consolation semifinals on Friday.

The Raiders play Los Altos (2-7) for the consolation championship on Saturday at 11 a.m.

Half Moon Bay 61, Aptos 29 >> Sophomore Eliya Chavez scored a team-high 11 points and had five rebounds and three assists, but the Mariners dropped their opener at the Aptos/Santa Cruz Warriors NorCal Tournament at Kaiser Permanente Arena on Thursday night.

Senior Berkeley Ashby had seven points and a team-high six rebounds for Aptos (7-2), and freshman Victoria Macias scored six.

The Mariners were outscored 25-3 in the second half.

Boys basketball

Pinole Valley 62, Santa Cruz 56 >> Junior guard Ahmari Otis scored 29 points to lead the Spartans past the Cardinals in the Damian Lillard Classic at Oakland High on Thursday.

The Cardinals rallied from a first quarter deficit and led 35-27 at the half and 47-43 after three quarters.

Junior Jaylin Reed added 16 points for Pinole Valley (5-4).

Santa Cruz (3-6) played Maryknoll (13-3) of Honolulu, Hawaii, in Oakland on Friday afternoon, after the Sentinel went to press.
