After a mostly sunny and seasonably mild Sunday, Monday looks to send mixed signals here interspersed with a few thunderstorms.
While a weak ridge of tranquil high pressure passes through Sunday, Monday looks to be a different story with morning warmth replaced by a wind shift to the north and cooling temperatures during the afternoon, as showers and thunderstorms accompany and precede a cold front sweeping through the Chicago area from the north.
A strong northwest flow aloft will continually reinforce unseasonably cool air covering the Great Lakes and Chicago the remainder of the coming workweek, while residents in hurricane-prone areas generally east of Florida and the Carolina coastline will be keeping an eye on the track Hurricane Irma may take.
