Donald Charles Dewey, long-time resident of San Marino, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 7, 2024.<br><br>Born on September 25, 1931, Don spent 93 wonderful years living life and devoting himself to his family and friends.<br><br>Don was the son of Mrs. Florence Mantz Dewey and Dr. Edward Bradley Dewey formerly of San Marino and Pebble Beach. As a Southern California native born at Pasadena’s Huntington Memorial Hospital, he spent his childhood in San Marino and was a 1949 graduate of South Pasadena/San Marino High School. Always willing to serve, Don joined the Navy where he spent three years in support of the Korean War. Upon returning, he attended UCLA where he was a member of Phi Delta Theta fraternity and met the love of his life and wife of 66 years, Lorraine Belton Dewey. Don graduated with an Economics degree from UCLA in 1957 and had a long and fruitful career in the insurance industry. Don and Lorraine raised their family in San Marino where they stayed until his retirement.<br><br>Don was a warm and gracious man, active in the Episcopal church and other community organizations. He was a volunteer with the Pasadena Tournament of Roses since 1973, a loyal member in the Order of Freemasons, and actively involved in the San Marino City Club, along with numerous other clubs and social groups. As a devoted UCLA Bruin and LA Dodger fan, Don rarely missed a game. He was an avid tennis player and golfer, who loved the great outdoors.<br><br>Don is survived by his wife Lorraine Belton Dewey, their three children, Elizabeth Champion (Kyle), Catherine Abboud (Omar), and John Dewey (Darcy), six grandchildren whom he adored: David Champion (Justine), Brian Champion (Cosette), Jeffrey Abboud, Michael Abboud (Chinmayi), Kendall Dewey and Caden Dewey, and four great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his two brothers Edward Bradley Dewey, Jr. of Orinda, California and Captain John Dewey (Sandra) of Chevy Chase, Maryland.<br><br>As a father of three, Don was actively involved in his children’s academics and activities, serving as a role model, counselor, and nurturing dad. His commitment to hard work, ethics, perseverance and integrity were the foundation for how he conducted himself throughout his life and how he raised his children.<br><br>A true gentleman, Don treated every human with great respect. He was filled with curiosity and a love for learning and was always eager to thoughtfully engage on any topic. Don’s enthusiasm for life, family and friends will be greatly missed by all.<br><br>A celebration of life will be held for Don at his long-time parish, Church of Our Saviour in San Gabriel, CA on Thursday, October 24, 2024, at 11 am. We welcome family and friends to join us as we celebrate Don’s life and remember the kind and loving impact he had on his family and all who knew him.<br><br>In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to, the Veterans of Foreign Wars (vfw.org).
