Officer-involved shooting Sunday night

Boulder police said an officer discharged their weapon near the north Boulder Recreation Center Sunday night.

According to a post on X sent out at 6:11 p.m., Boulder police requested the Boulder County Investigation team to look into an officer-involved shooting.

The investigation team is made up of investigators from local agencies that look into incidents of law enforcement using potentially deadly force.

The investigation team will turn over its findings to the Boulder County District Attorney’s Office to determine if charges are warranted.

Boulder police said no officers were injured and there was no threat to the public, but did not say if there were any other injuries or fatalities involved.

Police are requested residents avoid the area around 3170 Broadway while the case was under investigation.

No further information on the nature of the shooting or the call was released by Boulder police prior to print deadline.

Tree falls across Boulder Canyon Trail over weekend, closures expected

A large tree fell on the Boulder Canyon Trails on Saturday and is likely to cause closures over the next days.

According to the Boulder County Open Space X page, the tree fell near the Alps and is impacting a section of the trail between Fourmile Canyon Drive and the Chapman Trailhead, 38471 Boulder Canyon Dr.

Closures of the trail are likely as the county works to remove the tree.

Drive-by shooting suspect pleads not guilty

A co-defendant in an August Longmont drive-by shooting case has pleaded not guilty and has been set for a five-day trial in April.

Manuel Munoz-Vaquera, 20, pleaded not guilty Friday morning to two counts of attempted first-degree murder after deliberation and two counts of violent crime with a dangerous or automatic weapon.

His trial was set for April 22, and he has a motions hearing Feb. 8.

His co-defendant, Marcos Padilla, 19, had his arraignment set over for Jan. 19. Padilla and Munoz-Vaquera both remain in custody on $500,000 bonds.
