Octavio Dotel, who pitched for 13 major league teams in a 15-year career and won a world championship with the St. Louis Cardinals, was among the dead after a roof collapsed at a nightclub in his native Dominican Republic where he was attending a merengue concert. He was 51.

Officials initially said Dotel was rescued from the debris and transported to a hospital, but spokesman Satosky Terrero from the Professional Baseball League of the Dominican Republic confirmed that Dotel died later Tuesday.

At least 58 people died and 160 were injured after the collapse at the Jet Set nightclub, officials said. Tony Blanco, who played one MLB season and eight years professionally in Japan, also died following the collapse, Terrero said.

Dotel signed with the New York Mets in 1993 as an amateur free agent and made his major league debut in 1999. A starter early in his career, he turned into a reliable and at times dominant reliever while appearing in 758 games from 1999-2013.

When he took the mound for the Detroit Tigers on April 7, 2012, he set the record playing for the most major league teams at 13. Edwin Jackson broke the record in 2019 when he pitched for his 14th team.

The Mets held a moment of silence for Dotel before their game Tuesday against Miami, and a Dominican flag was shown on the video scoreboard.

Astros deal reliever Montero to Braves

The Braves added to their bullpen depth by acquiring right-hander Rafael Montero from the Houston Astros along with $7.7 million that will cover just over 70% of his remaining salary.

Atlanta will send the Astros a player to be named.

Montero, 34, has a 4.71 ERA in 11 seasons. Of his 324 career games, only 30 came as a starter, including none since 2017. He allowed two runs and three hits over in four innings this season.

Montero made his major league debut in 2014 with the New York Mets and has pitched the last five seasons for Houston.

Montero has a 3.81 ERA in 187 games with the Astros. He has 30 career saves, including 14 for Houston in 2022, when he contributed to a World Series championship.

Houston will recall left-hander Bennett Sousa from Triple A Sugar Land to replace Montero on the active roster.

The Braves did not immediately announce a roster move for Montero.

Mariners’ Robles out 3 months with injury

Seattle Mariners outfielder Victor Robles will miss at least 12 weeks after dislocating his left shoulder while catching a foul ball over the weekend, general manager Justin Hollander said.

Robles, who was batting .273 with three doubles as the Mariners’ leadoff man, was placed on the 10-day injured list Monday.

Imaging revealed the dislocation caused a small fracture in a bone in the shoulder, and Hollander said it appeared the injury would heal without surgery. If no surgery is required, the fracture should heal in about six weeks, and then another six weeks of rehabilitation would be necessary.

The Mariners were playing at San Francisco on Sunday when Robles made a long dash to chase down a fly ball. The right fielder went over the low railing in foul territory to make the catch, fell over the wall and crashed into the netting in the process.

Rangers activate Jung from IL

Texas Rangers third baseman Josh Jung was activated from the 10-day injured list after being sidelined because of neck spasms.

Jung batted seventh against the Chicago Cubs in his first appearance since leaving a game vs. Boston on March 28.

The No. 8 overall pick in the 2019 amateur draft out of Texas Tech, Jung was the AL starter at third base in the All-Star Game during his rookie season.

However, his career has been derailed by numerous injuries since.

Guardians trade for Mariners pitcher

The Cleveland Guardians acquired right-hander Cody Bolton from the Seattle Mariners for cash and optioned him to Triple-A Columbus.

Bolton has split his career between Pittsburgh and Seattle. He has appeared in 33 games the past two seasons that included 17 games for the Mariners last year, when he allowed nine earned runs in 18 2/3 innings with 17 strikeouts.

Bolton started the season in Triple-A, but was designated for assignment on April 5.

To make room for Bolton on the 40-man roster, the Guardians transferred left-hander John Means to the 60-day injured list.
