In loving memory of Caren Jean Hawkins-Costilla born on October 20,1942, in Battle Creek, Michigan. After bravely battling illness for four years, she was cared for by her loving husband Miguel Costilla, Jr and her daughter Stephanie Miller. Caren passed away peacefully on December 18, 2024, surrounded by her loving family and her cherished dog Lucky, in San Jose, California.
Caren led a remarkable life filled with grace, intelligence and kindness. She was a dedicated real estate broker and beautician, known for her poise, beauty and forgiving spirit. Caren's sharp mind and compassionate heart left a lasting impression on everyone who knew her.
Caren's legacy extends beyond her professional accomplishments and love for love of bay area sports teams. She was a gifted baker and candy maker whose creations brought joy to all who were lucky to enjoy them.
Married for 33 years to Miguel Costilla, Jr and survived by her six children: Fredrick Gistlinck, Michael Lewis, Stephanie Miller, Kira Costilla, Christina Gonzales and Tina Adams. She was a proud grandmother to eight grandchildren and a great grandmother to twelve great grandchildren.
Her spirit, strength and unwavering love will continue to be a guiding light to her family. Though she is no longer physically present, her essence will be felt in every sunset and every wave that graces the shore.
Caren is preceded in death by her parents, Merald B Hawkins and Evelyn Appledorn.
A celebration of life service to honor Caren will take place in late January, with the date to be announced.
