John Eugene Lychuk, died peacefully on his 96th Birthday, May 21, 2025. Beloved husband of Nadine and the late Catherine; loving father of Paul (Gretchen) Lychuk, David (Mary) Lychuk, William (Joan) Lychuk and Janice (William) Loomis; proud grandfather of Darby (Michael) Tobar, Adam, Karson, Colin, Natasha, Sydney, Claire and Evan; dear brother of Rosemary Robinson and the late Natalie Zaharuk and Diane Flowers.
He was born in Hamtramck, Michigan to parents who immigrated from Ukraine. He attended Hamtramck High School, playing tennis for Jean Hoxie.
This led to a tennis scholarship to Western Michigan University, where he was co-captain of the team. He was drafted into the army during the Korean War. Afterwards, he worked in engine design for GM and Chrysler. He lived life by the Golden Rule, was a scout leader, a volunteer for FISH, and was never afraid of hard work or helping someone in need. John enjoyed coin collecting and making stained glass. He always put his family ahead of himself and he loved his children unconditionally.
He was a great example of what a father should be.
After Catherine passed, he met Nadine Gildner at a hospice fundraiser almost 30 years ago and they have shared a wonderful life together. He always said he was Blessed to have her and her incredible family in his life. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 31, 2025 at 11a.m. at Modetz Funeral Home, 100 E. Silverbell Rd., Orion, MI.
Viewing on Friday from 4pm to 8pm and on Saturday from 10 a.m. until time of service. Interment immediately following at Square Lake Cemetery, Orion.
