Joyce “Joy” Ivy Fletcher, passed away on November 8, 2024, surrounded by the love of her family. She was born in London, England, and grew up during the turbulent days of World War II.
Joyce’s childhood was marked by resilience as she lived through the Battle of Britain. It was at a dance for English Servicemen that she met her future husband, a member of the Royal Air Force. Together, they began a life of love and adventure. When their children were young, they moved to Toronto, Canada, eventually settling in Walled Lake, Michigan for her husband’s work, and later, Franklin, Michigan, where they made a home at 31925 Franklin Road. Once her children were in school, Joyce returned to the workforce, beginning a remarkable career at Ford Motor Company.
Starting in a clerical position, she worked her way up through the Overseas Parts Department, breaking barriers as one of few women entering the workforce at that time. Joyce’s dedication, intelligence, and tenacity served as an inspiration to many, and she became a role model for those who followed. Joyce enjoyed playing golf. For years, she was the Chairperson of her Ford Golf League. At the age of 60, Joyce retired, and she and her husband embarked on new adventures around the globe. Together, they traveled widely, visiting places like Egypt and touring throughout Europe. On their European trips, they always made time to stop in England, where she delighted in reconnecting with family. Above all, Joyce was a loving matriarch, whose strength and guidance will be deeply missed. Beloved wife of the late Sidney “Sid” Fletcher. Loved by children Jacqueline Sefferman (Neil), Charmaine D’Alessandro (John) and Paul Fletcher (Jane). Adored by grandchildren, Nicole Hamel (Keith), Ian Sefferman (Ashley), Brandon Anderson (Christine Bettlach-Anderson), John D’Alessandro (Shelly), Ariel Hansen (Hunter), Whitney Fletcher (Zachary Bieghtol), Adam and Graham D’Alessandro, and 9 great-grandchildren.
