


HILLSBOROUGH >> A police officer was shot in a police department parking lot Saturday afternoon, and authorities continued to search for the suspect Sunday, according to press releases from the Hillsborough Police Department.
Authorities have interviewed a person of interested in South San Francisco but had not announced any arrests as of Sunday afternoon, according to a Sunday press release.
The suspect entered the rear parking lot of the police department shortly before 4 p.m. Saturday and “ambushed” a police officer, according to a Saturday press release. The officer was struck and returned fire. The suspect fled on foot in an unknown direction, and it remains unclear whether the officer’s return fire struck the subject.
The officer was taken to San Francisco General Hospital and is expected to make a full recovery, police said.
Authorities followed investigative leads in conjunction with allied agencies through Saturday night and the early hours of Sunday morning, police said. As of Sunday afternoon, the department continued to pursue active leads to identify and arrest the suspect.
Authorities added that the incident specifically targeted the police department. They are also “confident” that the suspect fled.
The incident occurred near Hillsborough Town Hall and the adjacent police station on Floribunda Avenue.
