NBA great Paul Pierce has proposed a blockbuster trade between the Sacramento Kings and Denver Nuggets.

The Boston Celtics legend offered an interesting idea on a recent episode of “KG Certified,” a podcast hosted by fellow Hall of Famer Kevin Garnett.

Pierce said the Nuggets should acquire six-time All-Star DeMar DeRozan from the Kings in a trade that would bring Michael Porter Jr. to Sacramento. Pierce seems to think the core of Nikola Jokic, Jamal Murray and DeRozan could help the Nuggets contend for another championship following back-to-back second-round playoff exits.

“For the next five years, if you got the best player, you got to put some pieces,” said Pierce, a 10-time All-Star who was named NBA Finals MVP after leading the Celtics to a championship in 2008. “I feel like if they had a DeMar DeRozan with that team right now, with Joker, he don’t need to be the best player or the second-best player every night. He is going to give you more than what Michael Porter Jr. gave you.”

Kings general manager Scott Perry is looking to improve the roster after being hired to replace Monte McNair. The Kings won 48 games to end a 16-year playoff drought in 2023 before losing in the play-in tournament each of the past two seasons.

DeRozan, 35, is a 16-year NBA veteran who ranks 25th on the league’s all-time scoring list. He averaged 22.2 points, 3.9 rebounds and 4.4 assists for the Kings this season while shooting 47.7% from the field, 32.8% from 3-point range and 85.7% at the free-throw line on 5.7 attempts per game.

The Kings acquired DeRozan last summer in a sign-and-trade deal involving the Chicago Bulls and San Antonio Spurs.

Porter, 26, is a 6-foot-10, 218-pound forward who would help the Kings address their need for size, length, athleticism and wing help. He would fit nicely in a frontcourt featuring Keegan Murray and Domantas Sabonis.
