


Jazz pianist Tord Gustavsen performs at Kuumbwa Jazz
On Thursday at 7 p.m., Norwegian jazz pianist and composer Tord Gustavsen will perform as the Tord Gustavsen Trio, which also features bassist Steinar Raknes and drummer Jarle Vespestad.
Gustaven is a highly successful musician, traveling worldwide to tour his music and winning a Spellemannprisen (a Norwegian Grammy Award) in 2009. His musical inspiration is spiritual, and he relates playing music to praying.

Local pianist Brianna Conrey celebrates female composers
On Friday at 7:30 p.m., local pianist Brianna Conrey will perform “Piano: An All-Women Show.”
The show will feature only woman composers from over 250 years and is inspired by Conrey’s admiration for their struggle to create against odds such as sexism and imposter syndrome.

Deathcore band Thy Art is Murder celebrates album
On Friday at 6 p.m., Australian deathcore band Thy Art Is Murder will perform their “Decade of Hate” tour at the Catalyst.
Thy Art Is Murder’s second album “Hate” debuted at No. 35 on the ARIA Charts (the main Australian music sales charts), giving the band the distinction of being the first extreme metal band to break the Top 40 on this chart. “Hate” (the album the band is celebrating the 10-year anniversary of on this tour) explores issues such as the band’s distaste for organized religion or politics.

MAHsquerade Gala to help support museum
On Saturday from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m., the Museum of Art and History (MAH) will host a MAHsquerade Gala as a special fundraiser.
The MAHsquerade will feature live music from New Orleans jazz band MJ’s Brass Boppers, dancing with DJ Sparkle, and beverages and food.

Banff Centre Film Festival features adventure-themed films
On Friday through Sunday from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m., the Banff Centre Mountain Film Festival brings its world tour to the Rio Theatre.
Different films will be screened each night, but all will share the common spirit of adventure — from thrilling action sports to the beauty of remote landscapes. This event will benefit Adventure Rec student programs.

On March 1, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., the Santa Cruz Museum of Art and History will host “UCSC Night at the Museum — Resettlement: Chicago Story.”
The event will begin with an exhibition from the Watsonville Taiko group, move into a screening of the short documentary “Resettlement: Chicago Story,” and end with a question and answer session with the film’s creators. The documentary is centered around how Japanese American citizens settled in the Midwest after their internment in World War II.
