The Seahawks have found the replacement for Geno Smith at quarterback, agreeing to a three-year, $100.5 million deal with Sam Darnold.

According to reports Monday, $55 million of the contract is guaranteed. Darnold will earn $37.5 million in 2025.

Darnold had a breakthrough season in his only year with the Vikings, throwing for 4,319 yards and 35 TDs while posting a 102.5 passer rating and leading the team to 14 wins.

Darnold was drafted third overall by the Jets in 2018, but struggled mightily during three seasons with the Jets and two with the Panthers. His 78.2 passer rating during that time ranked third worst among 53 QBs with at least 500 attempts.

But the 27-year-old Darnold has revitalized his career since then.

After spending the 2023 season as a backup with the 49ers, Darnold finally played to his potential for most of last season. His 12 games with multiple TD passes and a passer rating of at least 100 ranking tied for the fourth most ever in a season, trailing only MVP seasons from Aaron Rodgers (2011 and 2020) and Patrick Mahomes (2018).

But Darnold ended his season by posting back-to-back duds in his final two games: a Week 18 game against the Lions for the No. 1 seed in the NFC and a wild-card loss to the Rams. Darnold went 18 for 41 for 166 yards and no TDs in a 31-9 loss to the Lions in Week 18 and then threw for 245 yards and had two turnovers the next week in a 27-9 loss to the Rams.

His performance in those key games contributed to the decision by the Vikings to let Darnold hit the open market and turn the team over to J.J. McCarthy, who was drafted 10th overall last season.

Bills reward Allen: Reigning league MVP Josh Allen was rewarded with a contract extension worth $330 million, with an NFL record $250 million of it guaranteed, which makes him among the league’s highest-paid players.

The new contract adds two years to 28-year-old QB’s contract with the Bills and locks him in through the 2030 season.

Jets replace Rodgers: The Jets and former Steelers QB Justin Fields agreed to terms on a two-year contract reportedly worth $40 million.

The 26-year-old Fields steps in as starter for Aaron Rodgers, who will not be back with the Jets.

The deal for Fields includes $30 million in guaranteed money.

Record deal for corner: Jaycee Horn has agreed to a four-year contract extension with the Panthers worth $100 million, including $70 million guaranteed, making him the highest-paid cornerback in the NFL.

The No. 8 pick in the 2021 draft, Horn, 25, is coming off his first Pro Bowl after having 68 tackles, two sacks and one interception.

Mack stays put: Khalil Mack will remain with the Chargers after agreeing to a one-year deal. Mack’s $18 million salary for the 2025 season will be fully guaranteed, according to reports.

Mack, 34, was selected to his ninth Pro Bowl in 2024 after being the only player in the league with at least six sacks and nine passes defensed.
