The Chicago area is locked in a cloudy and seasonably cold weather pattern, but that’s not so bad in early January. The first three days of the New Year have produced no sunshine at all, and the dreariness is expected to continue for most of the upcoming week. Though sunshine will be lacking, daytime high will hover in the 30s, about 5 degrees above normal. No major snowstorms are on the horizon, as the city’s snow drought continues. While there has been an uptick in snowfall in recent days, totals for the season are lagging well below normal. Two minor weather systems are expected to affect the city this week, a brief round of light snow or wintry mix on Monday night and a small chance of some rain or snow Wednesday, as another weather system passes well to the south.
