Midfielders Skylar Dufour, Sofia Niklaus, and Dillon Fiorita worked as a unit to command the draws, and Scotts Valley High’s girls lacrosse team knocked off host Soquel 20-3 a Pacific Coast Athletic League non-divisional game on Thursday.

Niklaus had four goals and two assists, Stella Cheney had three goals and an assist, and Annie Gowing also scored three goals.

First-year players Isabella Padilla, Campbell Flores, Hanna Shehorn scored their first goals of the season for the Falcons (5-0), who compete in the Gabilan Division.

Scotts Valley tallied nine assists.

“The young Soquel team competed well and shows a ton of promise,” said Falcons coach Colleen Niklaus. “Their defense especially deserves praise for their athletic and competitive play.”

Anchoring the Falcons’ defense was first-time goalies Erin Szymanski and Claire Skinner.

Ayla Hymes, Amelie Stotland, and Reilly Kerko scored for the Knights (3-2), who compete in the Mission Division. Goalie Ava Sullivan made eight saves.

“The Knights did not give up, did not lose their cool, did not stop giving their all until the end horn,” said Knights coach Lauren Junker. “I could not be more proud of their sportsmanship, team pride and strength through that game.”

High school baseball

Soquel 9, at Aptos 7, 8 inn. >> Gabe Virgallito had two hits, one RBI, and scored twice, and the Knights scored a pair of unearned runs in the eighth inning to knock the Mariners from the unbeaten ranks in Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League action.

C.J. Claydon had two walks, two RBI, and scored a run for the Knights (8-3, 2-1). Cash Moran had two hits and scored a run.

Edward Peters was 2-for-4 batting with a two-run home run for the Mariners (3-5, 2-1), and Matt Hood hit a pair of doubles and had two RBI.

Mariners starting pitcher Jorden Espinoza gave up three runs, two earned, over 5 1/3 innings. He struck out 11 batters and walked five.

Scotts Valley 10, Santa Cruz 6 >> The Falcons scored nine runs over the first four innings and handed the Cardinals their first SCCAL loss Thursday.

Quinn Turowski had three hits, including a double, three RBI, and scored a run. Corbin Giesen had three hits and one RBI. Jack Sanders and Blake LaRiviere each had two hits.

Winning pitcher Colin Melrose gave up five runs, three earned, and four hits over three innings, He struck out four batters and walked three. Blake LaRiviere gave up one run and three hits over the final four innings, He had three walks and three strikeouts.

Jason Graff took the loss for Santa Cruz (4-4, 2-1). He gave up seven hits and seven unearned runs in 1 1/3 innings.

August Swanson and Kaden Smith each had two RBI for the Cardinals. Cameron Fusari had two hits, and Fernando DaCosta drew two walks.

The Falcons (5-2, 2-1) play at Christopher on Saturday at 11 a.m.

At St. Francis 11, Salinas 2 >> Nash Horton and Javier Fonseca hit home runs, and the Sharks blasted the Cowboys in their Pacific Coast Athletic League Gabilan Division win Thursday.

Horton had three RBI, and Fonseca had two hits, two RBI, and scored three runs. Leadoff hitter Micah Cervantes had three hits and scored four runs. Pedro “Jr.” Ibarra doubled, had two RBI, and scored a run.

Ibarra gave up four hits and two unearned runs over three innings. Trey Silva pitched four scoreless innings and earned the win in relief. They threw a combined seven strikeouts with no walks.

St. Francis (4-3, 3-3) hosts Monte Vista Christian (0-9, 0-6) on Monday at 4 p.m.

NBA G League

At Stockton 131, Santa Cruz 122 >> Guard Kendric Davis had 27 points, 10 assists, and five rebounds, but the Warriors saw their six-game win streak come to a close at Adventist Health Arena on Thursday.

Forward Gui Santos, on assignment from Golden State, notched 18 points and eight rebounds for Santa Cruz (18-12), and two-way center Usman Garuba added 18 points and 12 rebounds. Guard Javonte Green came off the bench and contributed 14 points and 12 rebounds.

Guard Jaylen Nowell scored a game-high 32 points off the bench for the Kings (21-9). Forward Deonte Burton scored 29 points, and two-way guard Mason Jones secured a triple-double with 20 points, 10 rebounds, and 16 assists. Forward Stanley Johnson rounded out the scoring with 20 points and 10 rebounds.

The teams meet again in Stockton on Saturday at 5 p.m.

Morgan Devillires had a hit and RBI for the Pirates.

Pitcher Jori Fields-Rapley earned the win for the Cougars (6-7, 2-1), who host Santa Cruz on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.

Five MVC players had multiple stolen bases as the Mustangs totaled 15 steals.

Kayla Fullalove-Silveira had two hits, including a triple, two RBI, and scored twice. Isabel Piccini had three hits, one RBI, and a run scored. Gianna Johnson had two hits, one RBI, and a run scored. Kate Caballero had a hit and two RBI, and Mae Martin had a hit and scored twice.

Martin, the winning pitcher, gave up three hits and three walks in her complete-game outing. She struck out six batters.

At SLV 196, Santa Cruz 197 >> James Dahlen shot 2-over-par 33 for medalist honors at Boulder Creek Golf and Country Club, and the Cougars edged the Cardinals in their home opener in SCCAL play Thursday.

Keenan Buntz (35), Luke Fontinell (42), and Wyatt McCabe (42) scored for the Cougars (4-0). They also counted a 44, which was shot by both Jack Fontinell and Mason Atkinson.

Sam Wilkens (36), Bodie Weld (37), Cliff Chesnut (39), Roman Minasian (42), and Tobin Ortiz (43) scored for the Cardinals.

SLV faces Scotts Valley at DeLaveaga G.C. on Thursday.

The Pirates defaulted at No. 4 singles, and Nos. 2 and 3 doubles.
