Ann (Anthoula) Nikolaou, age 87, passed peacefully in her home on Thursday, December 15, after struggling through decades of dementia. She was born July 24, 1935 in Thessaloniki, Greece. Ann came to the United States in 1957 on a scholarship to Oklahoma University to receive her Master’s degree in English literature. She later moved to LA & then San Francisco where she worked for Dean Witter for many years until her youngest of 5 kids was 3 years old. She was married to Alexandros Nikolaou until his death in July of 2004.
She is survived by her sisters, Katie Velitskakis and Kiki Lazongka, her 5 children: Angela Loukos, Mitch, Joe, Alex Nikolaou and Sylvia Foundas. She is also survived by 5 grandchildren: Anthoula Mickel, Theo Loukos, Vasilis, Alexander & Nikoletta Foundas & one great grandchild, Melina Mickel.
Ann’s great joy in life was being surrounded by her family. The Trisagion will be held at the Resurrection Greek Orthodox Church, 20104 Center St., Castro Valley at 7 PM on Jan. 9.
The Funeral Service will be held at 11 AM at Resurrection Greek Orthodox Church on Jan. 10. The burial will be at Oakmont Memorial Cemetery immediately following Funeral Services. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Resurrection Greek Orthodox Church.
