Dewey D. Evans, born May 17, 1938, peacefully passed away at Hospice of the Monterey Peninsula’s Westland House on June 15, 2025. Dewey was born and raised on the family ranch in Evanston, Wyoming and was proceeded in death by his parents, Dorothy L. and William A. Evans. Dewey joined the United States Air Force in 1956, stationed in Wakkanai, Hokkaido, Japan for the first two years of his service and completed his service at Cambria, California in 1960.
Dewey left behind his loving wife of 27 years, Kendra C. Evans, stepdaughter Danielle, J Ashmore, sisters Dixie, L Warren, Tamara J Bond, Susan, H Johnson, brothers George, W Evans, Jon J Evans and numerous nieces and nephews.
Dewey retired from the City of Monterey in 1999 after serving 30 years as Finance Director. In retirement, he continued consulting professionally for numerous cities and agencies on the Monterey Peninsula including Monterey Peninsula Regional Park District. He also held the position of CEO for the Seaside Groundwater Basin Watermaster from 2006-2016.
Past president of the following professional associations: League of California Cities, California Society of Municipal Finance Officers, California Municipal Treasurer’s Association among many other organizations.
Member of the International Club of Carmel.
Dewey has requested that there be no public services.
There will be a private family celebration of life for Dewey on a future date.
