Linda King is marking 20 years of providing natural wellness treatments in Loveland.

Her business, Naturally Yours Wellness Spa, offers massage, reiki, flower essences, sauna, crystal light bed, ionic cleanse, reflexology and other treatments.

“I love helping people,” she said.

“I just feel like that’s my calling.”

In her office she has worked with people with disabilities, those with post-traumatic stress disorder and senior citizens.

Among those she has helped were a young woman who had been raped at age 14 and continued to suffer from anxiety, insomnia, PTSD and agoraphobia.

With energy work, flower essences, hypnotherapy and tapping, she helped the young woman reduce the 11 medications she was prescribed for her issues to just one.

She has helped people stop smoking, to be able to face fears such as the fear of flying, and she has helped others focus on what they want to do with their lives.

“I like to be able to help people overcome their issues,” she said.

To celebrate her 20th anniversary in Loveland, she is offering discounts on a variety of services through Jan. 31, including massage with hot packs and aromatherapy; combo treatments, such as a massage and far infrared sauna; and a crystal light healing bed treatment with a hypnotic paraliminal session or sound healing

Her office can be reached at 970-215-7606 or naturallyyourswellnessspa.com.

Naturally Yours Wellness Spa is open by appointment between 9 a.m. and 8 p.m., upstairs in Palmer Gardens Shopping Center, 150 E. 29th St., Suite 245.

King answered five questions about her path to becoming a healer, what she does and ways people can deal with stress.

1. How did you get started with natural wellness treatments?

In the late 1970s, I became an HerbaLife distributor because I could see the invaluable benefits of using herbs to heal a variety of different ailments. I didn’t know it at the time, but I later found out my grandmother rarely went to doctors — she used herbs and spices to heal herself, her kids and other people she knew.

In 1994, I was living in a ski resort town (Mammoth Lakes, Calif.) and had a nasty break in my lower leg — tibia and fibula both shattered in the ankle area. I had two horrific surgeries that didn’t go so well. In turn, I had a broken leg for 20 months.

I happened to catch a Montel Williams show on TV about energy work. I began to practice what the guy was showing the audience — lighting a candle, setting an intention of healing, sending the light of the candle to the area needing to be healed, mainly. I had just had my third surgery with a different surgeon.

After coming back into the office to have my cast removed, the doctor asked, “What have you been doing? This is amazing! Your leg is showing six months of healing in only six weeks!” I told him about the energy work and he said he didn’t understand what I was talking about, but to keep doing it!

I started taking formal classes in therapeutic touch and in reiki. Later, I would learn LuxMani and other healing methods. I later found out my great-grandfather did energy work with the Cherokee tribe.

In 1999, I started taking classes at the School of Natural Medicine in Boulder studying naturopathy. It pretty much snowballed from there — massage classes, hypnotherapy, flower essence training, herbology, reflexology, Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT), Living Foods, tuning forks, color healing, crystals, stones, detoxification, etc.

2. What kind of services do you offer, and who can benefit from them?

• Massage: I believe anyone can benefit from any number of my services. I offer a variety of massages, which can be invaluable to alleviating stress, relaxing the muscles, detoxifying the body, getting a clearer mindset, etc.

• Flower remedies: Flower remedies are created from dewdrops of flowers, plants and trees to help change emotions, thought patterns, etc. to make positive changes in one’s life.

• Ion foot detox: This foot bath takes 30 minutes and pulls the toxins out of your body using positive and negative ions.

• Reflexology: By using this ancient system of healing, you can access various body parts and organs by massaging various areas of the feet.

• Far infrared sauna: A relaxing and rejuvenating 30-minute session will help detoxify your body, soothe your muscles.

• Crystal light bed: This treatment combines several therapies in one: far Infrared mat, lights, colors, crystals, sound bath or other sound therapy, essential oils and more crystals.

3. What tips do you have for maintaining wellness during busy or stressful times?

• Keep your thoughts and emotions positive!

• Keep yourself hydrated.

• Get a good night’s sleep.

• Remember to breathe.

• Eat healthy.

• Meditation (there are many ways to meditate).

• Surround yourself with positive people.

• Experience a sound bath.

• Take care of yourself — get a massage or do treatments you find relaxing, even if it’s just soaking in an epsom salt bath with lavender essential oil.

• Get back to nature — take walks, get fresh air, get out in the garden.

• Watch a favorite movie or reread a book you’ve always loved.

4. You’re marking 20 years in business. How has the business changed during that time?

I’m celebrating 20 years of being in business in Loveland, but I actually started my business in California in Mammoth Lakes in 2001. Being at a big ski resort, I primarily offered massages in private homes and condos, but also had an office with four treatment rooms. I had four therapists that worked with me, as there were usually large groups of people.

I worked with some celebrities: Lindsay Vonn was only 18 years old when she came to see me. I gave a massage to the late rapper, Coolio, who was also working on a book about relationships. Producers, directors, assistants to major people in the film industry.

After moving to Loveland, I had to start all over at less pay and build new clientele. I have seen many of my current clients for over 15 years now. Some clients will come in for the same treatments, some will try new treatments.

5. What do you wish people knew or understood better about natural wellness?

Indigenous people seemed to understand the properties of living in balance and harmony with Mother Earth. There are so many tools available to us to help us heal — instead of running to the doctor or pharmacy to get “something” to make us feel better NOW.

Mindset is so important! Watch your thoughts, watch your words. If you say things like, “I always catch a cold this time of year,” then most likely you will. Instead say, “I’m keeping my immune system high this year and I enjoy being healthy!”

Everything is connected in our lives and body, mind and soul are connected, as well.

There are a lot of natural remedies on the market. Do your research. If you hear of a new product that claims to cure X, Y and Z, research it. What’s in it? Any side effects?

Sometimes it takes a number of sessions to get your muscles loosened up. Sometimes you will need to detox over a period of weeks or months, to rid your body of the toxins. Sometimes, you need to try a variety of therapies to see results.
