Junior Kitty White hit the 1,000-point career plateau on Saturday during Redwood High’s 51-19 rout of Montgomery in a non-league meeting. White led the Giants with 12 points, while Hindi Copeland added eight points.
The game got off to a lopsided start as Redwood held Montgomery scoreless in the first quarter, while White scored the first six points of the game. The Giants opened up a 23-8 lead by halftime.
Redwood (13-8, 5-0 MCAL) gets back to league play on Tuesday against San Marin.
San Marin broke loose with a big run in the middle of the game to beat Archie Williams, 36-16, in Friday’s home contest. The Mustangs celebrated Melissa Boyle Night, honoring their Marin Athletic Hall of Fame 2024 inductee. The Mustangs (17-5, 3-1 MCAL) went on a 26-8 surge through the second and third quarters to stop the Peregrine Falcons (17-11, 2-2), who had won back-to-back games entering Friday’s game. Reese Patton led the Falcons with seven points.
• Juliette Caldwell-Little scored a career-high 11 points to lead The Branson School past San Rafael, 45-20, on Friday. Avery Myerberg scored a team-best 17 points to go with eight rebounds and four assists for the Bulls (11-9, 2-3 MCAL). Freshman Kate Spaulding had six points and Paige Macy added five points and eight rebounds. Branson is scheduled to play at Healdsburg on Saturday. Jennifer Armas scored nine points and Roselyn Mazariegos had seven for the Bulldogs (3-13, 0-5), who will try to snap a seven-game skid on Tuesday against Tam.
• Marin Catholic rolled to a 41-21 victory over Terra Linda on Friday night. Jocelyn Gigounas led the Wildcats with 10 points and Brooke Spagnuolo had eight. The Wildcats (13-8, 4-1 MCAL) are scheduled to host Justin-Siena on Saturday in a non-league contest. The Wildcats lost Saturday’s non-league contest against Justin-Siena, 78-59.
• Marin Academy lost to BCL West leader University, 56-37, on Thursday evening. The Wildcats (11-8, 2-3 BCL West) are scheduled to face Convent in Tuesday’s road game.
Boys basketball
Redwood battled to a 54-50 victory over Moreau Catholic during Saturday’s Crush in the Valley at Contra Costa College in another close contest between the non-league rivals. Player of the Game Semetri Carr led the Giants with 22 points, 14 rebounds, five assists, two steals and three blocks. Kellen Harrington had 15 points and nine rebounds, while Tyler White added 10 points and Isaiah Clendinen had 11 points.
The Giants lost 51-49 last season against the Mariners. The Giants (14-6, 4-1 MCAL) are scheduled to play San Marin on Tuesday, while the Mariners (15-4, 8-0 MVL) play James Logan in a Mission Valley League contest on Wednesday.
• Terra Linda big man Evan Brewster scored a game-high 19 points to lead the Trojans past Marin Catholic, 50-40, on Friday. Bennett Kayser added 16 points and Pele Love had 11 for the Trojans, who led by four points at the break before a second-half run.
• Harrington White scored a team-high 19 points as Redwood rolled past Novato, 84-34, on Friday. Tyler White added 10 points and Semetri Carr finished with eight for the Giants (13-6, 4-1), who are scheduled to play Moreau Catholic on Saturday. The Hornets (6-13, 0-4) are scheduled to play Piedmont on Saturday.
• The Branson School (13-9, 3-2) beat San Rafael, 63-47, with a big second-half push Friday night. Chase Robertson led the Bulls with 23 points and five rebounds, while NJ Gray added 19 points, eight rebounds and three steals. The Bulls (13-9, 3-2 MCAL) got seven points from Tyler Wells and six points and eight rebounds from Tom Lardner, as well as superior defense from Gabe Halbrecht. Gio Brovelli’s 26-point night paced the Bulldogs. Wyatt Tornello grabbed 11 rebounds and he and Asher Urban combined for 14 points for the Bulldogs (14-7, 1-3).
• Archie Williams secured a 66-54 road win over San Marin in a back-and-forth contest Friday. The Peregrine Falcons (14-6, 2-2) surged ahead before halftime for a 29-28 lead over the Mustangs (11-9, 2-2), but still needed a big fourth-quarter push for the win. Grady Stewart had 23 points, eight rebounds and four assists for the Falcons, and Alex Hamblet added 15 points, 10 rebounds and three blocks. Grant Means dropped 20 points for San Marin.
• Dylan Chelew scored 18 points and Roman Yusupov had 15 as St. Vincent High of Petaluma beat Elsie Allen, 60-31, on Friday.
