LOS ANGELES — As part of the league’s schedule adjustments, the NBA rescheduled a combined six Lakers and Clippers games.
The league announced on Wednesday morning that the Lakers’ home game against the Charlotte Hornets that was originally scheduled for Jan. 9 but was postponed because of the wildfires in Southern California has been rescheduled for Feb. 19 at Crypto.com Arena, making the matchup the Lakers’ first game coming out of the All-Star break.
The game against the Hornets will be the first night of a home-road back-to-back, with the Lakers already scheduled to play the Portland Trail Blazers at the Moda Center on Feb. 20 to start a two-game trip that will end with a matchup against the Denver Nuggets at Ball Arena on Feb. 22.
The Lakers’ home game against the Utah Jazz scheduled for Feb. 11 was also rescheduled for Feb. 10. They’ll play the Jazz again as scheduled on Feb. 12 in Salt Lake City, their final game before the All-Star break.
The Clippers’ home game against the Hornets that was scheduled for Saturday at Intuit Dome but postponed because of the wildfires was rescheduled for March 16.
To accommodate the rescheduled Clippers-Hornets matchup, the Clippers’ home game against the Washington Wizards that was originally scheduled for March 16 was moved up to Jan. 23, making the matchup a second night of a home-back-to-back after playing the Boston Celtics on Jan. 22.
The Clippers had two other schedule changes as part of the league’s announcement:
Chicago Bulls at Clippers scheduled for Jan. 21 rescheduled for Jan. 20;
Clippers at Jazz scheduled for March 19 rescheduled for Feb. 13.
The league said in its announcement that the date for the Lakers’ home game against San Antonio that was originally scheduled for Saturday will be announced at a later time.
TWO-WAY SWAP
The Lakers are planning to waive two-way contract guard Quincy Olivari and sign big man Trey Jemison to their open two-way roster spot after releasing Olivari, a source told the Southern California News Group.
Jemison, who went undrafted in 2023 after playing at Clemson (2018-20) and UAB (2020-23), was most recently on a two-way deal with the New Orleans Pelicans, averaging 2.4 points and 2.8 rebounds in 16 games (10.4 minutes) before being waived on Jan. 9.
His most significant playing time came with the injury-plagued Memphis Grizzlies last season, averaging 7.4 points, 5.8 rebounds, 1.2 blocked shots and 1.2 assists in 24.9 minutes (23 games — 14 starts).
The 6-foot-10, 260-pound Jemison spent the final two months of last season on a two-way contract with the Grizzlies after starting his NBA career on a 10-day deal with the Washington Wizards in January 2024.
Olivari, a preseason standout who the Lakers signed to a two-way contract on Oct. 19, made two appearances for the Lakers. He averaged 17.2 points, 4.6 rebounds and 4.4 assists while shooting 40.6% from 3-point range in 13 games with the Lakers’ G League affiliate, the South Bay Lakers.
VANDERBILT UPDATE
Jarred Vanderbilt, who hasn’t played this season after having surgery on his feet during the offseason, was seen doing on-court work with player development coach Ty Abbott during Wednesday morning’s shootaround.
Coach JJ Redick previously said that Vanderbilt, who has practiced with South Bay within the past week, won’t make his return to the court this week but said on Wednesday that the team expects to have an update on a “more specific timeline” early next week.
The Lakers have four more games in Southern California after Wednesday’s against Miami before their annual Grammy road trip.
