Time for LC to close some buildings

The L’Anse Creuse schools are always asking for more money. They lied on the bond Issue and lost the voter support. Then reissued it with a somewhat smaller request and better definition of plans to use it even with much undefined. It passed on a second vote. I get that bond issues are for capital expenditures, not operating costs.

However this current announcement of cutbacks which always come out in springtime and seem to be resolved by start of school in the fall could very well be because of over spending of federal COVID relief funds that got co-mingled with the other budget items and now looks like a cutback on the next years budget.

Over promising and mismanagement seem to be their issue. School tax is the number one item in our overall property taxes. If they are so short of operating funds and concern for larger class sizes, why then are they still advertising for “school of choice” to grab students from other schools? I support school of choice 100 percent but if the school can’t meet budget, something has to give. Maybe they just need to reexamine all programs offered and make some cuts.

They could reconsider capital expenditures for new buildings (to be named after the leaders themselves) as buildings add to operations cost for maintenance, utilities, on site employees etc. These buildings sit empty most hours of a day and days/weeks of the year anyway.

It’s time to lower fixed costs and shut those buildings down.

Does McClain back the blue?

In her May 17 editorial, Congresswoman Lisa McClain encourages readers to support police (“Standing with law enforcement this national Police Week,” May 17 Macomb Daily).

Without question, we all should support and honor police officers and their families, who sacrifice to keep our communities safe.

McClain’s support of law enforcement would ring true, however, if she actually supported all police.

Her refusal to hold accountable the mob that killed officer Brian Sicknick and injured more than 140 police officers in the January 6 U.S. Capitol attack shows her true colors.

McLain’s editorial claims “supporting law enforcement should never be a partisan issue,” yet she is guilty of such partisanship by whitewashing the events of that day for her own political gain. Clearly, not all blue lives matter to Lisa McClain.
