More than 300 people attended the annual Miller Children’s Hospital Auxiliary’s Annual Designer Fashion Show, held at the Hyatt on Feb. 15.
During the event, to benefit MemorialCare Miller Children’s & Women’s Hospital, guests bid at a silent auction. The 200 baskets were artfully created by auxiliary members over months of time.
A beautifully handmade christening dress and bonnet was one of the stand-outs. A favorite was a large basket filled to the brim with champagne and glasses, a Nordstrom gift card, a $100 bill, a purse and pearls, among other goodies; the Halloween basket was a cutie, as was the Salvation Army caroler collectibles. Stealing the show was the large orangutan holding a ripe banana, a real eye-catcher.
President Roxie Hause introduced guest speaker Dr. Rachel Sirignano of the Pediatric Cardiac Intensivist Children’s Heart Institute, who spoke of the “Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation” machine, or “ECMO,” for the Pediatric and Neonatal Intensive Care Units. The machine lets the heart and lungs heal in seriously ill infants, after surgery, injuries, disease or trauma. Funds raised at this event and others will go toward the auxiliary’s three-year, $600,000 pledge.
The day’s theme of “Hope is Where the Heart Is” was underscored with centerpieces of small white trees with white lights and red heart ornaments perched upon a round mirror.
As for the fashion show, the items came from Couture Fashion Productions by Lucinda Mead. The designers were: Glaudi, Pellone Collection and The Extreme Collection. Dr. James Fritzell was the master of ceremonies and auctioneer for the live auction. LB Girl Scout Troop No. 4283, its leader, Jessica Cardenas, were the sellers for opportunity tickets and runners for payment on silent auction bids.
Sponsors were: Temple Family Charitable Foundation, Lois and Dean Fleischauer, Joyce and Ray Bond, Mari Hooper, Adriana Lake, Pediatrix Medical Group, Cabe Toyota, Heritage Dilday Memorial Services, Farmers & Merchants Bank, Margie and Jim Penny, Hazel and Mel Hoshiko, Linda Dilday, Jane and Nick Nielsen and Donna and Ron Rogers, Vicki Firestone and Betsy Johnson.
