



Jaxson Hoye was dominant on the mound, and Harbor High’s baseball team shut out visiting Thomas More of San Jose, 5-0, in the teams’ nonleague game Tuesday.
Hoye, a 6-foot-4 senior right-hander, gave up just two hits over scoreless innings and recorded nine strikeouts with two walks.
The Pirates gave Hoye some early support by scoring a run in the first inning. They tacked on two runs in the fifth inning and two runs in the sixth.
Cole McCombs had a walk, double, stolen base and RBI. Tyson Blaschke had two hits for the Pirates and Liam Nunes had a hit.
Harbor (5-1) hosts North Monterey County (3-3) on Thursday at 4 p.m.
At Soquel 5, Willow Glen 4 >> The unbeaten Knights scored three runs in the sixth inning and two runs in the seventh to rally from a 4-0 deficit in their walk-off, nonleague win Tuesday.
Gabe Virgallito had two hits, including a double, one RBI, and scored twice for the Knights. Hudson Summerrill had two hits, including a double, and one RBI. Sam Whelan tripled and had two RBI. Cash Moran had a hit, RBI, and run scored, and Jake Escalante and Noah Piona each had a hit and run scored.
Starter Connor Corlett gave up four runs, three earned, over 5 1/3 innings. Kane Humecky earned the win with a scorless inning of relief.
Soquel (6-0) plays at Westmont (1-3-1) in Campbell on Saturday at noon.
Bellarmine 8, at SLV 4 >> Junior Porter Boyd had a double and two RBI in the Cougars’ nonleague loss Tuesday.
Junior Brody Egnar had hit, RBI, and run scored for SLV. Senior Jaden Shabry doubled and scored a run. Sophomore Spencer Bruce and sophomore Larrabee Mitchell also scored.
SLV (0-3) hosts vs Franklin (5-5) of Stockton on Saturday at noon.
At Monterey 7, St. Francis 0 >> The Sharks were held to four hits in their loss at Sollecito Park on Tuesday to open PCAL Gabilan Division play.
St. Francis (2-2, 0-1) hosts Monterey (1-4, 1-0) on Thursday at 4 p.m.
At Monte Vista Christian 14, King City 0; 5 inn. >> Sophomores Evan Vessey and Parker Brown each had a double, three RBI, and scored a run in the Mustangs’ nonleague win Tuesday.
MVC had eight hits, drew seven walks, and stole 17 bases.
Tyson Shaw had two hits, two RBI, and a run scored. Isai Gonzalez had a hit and two RBI. Dante Darnell scored three runs, and Carter Wright, Gerard Tershey, and Jackson Haddad each scored twice.
Sophomore Aidan Miller pitched three innings and earned the win.
MVC (7-0) hosts Milpitas (2-4) on Saturday at 2 p.m.
At NMC 17, Watsonville 3; 5 inn. >> Seniors Rudy Valdez and Patrick Miller-Brown each had two hits and scored a run in the Wildcatz’s loss Tuesday.
Senior Kaden Ortiz had two hits and one RBI for the Wildcatz. Valdez, Miller-Brown, and Ortiz combined for seven stolen bases.
Senior Tyler Bladwin pitched four innings and earned the win. Freshman Brody Barto pitched two innings and took the loss.
Watsonville (0-6) plays at Harbor (5-1) on Saturday at 11 a.m.

Hartnell 6, at Cabrillo 4 >> Second baseman Adrian Castaneda had two hits, including a two-run single, and scored a run in the Seahawks’ loss in the teams’ Coast Conference South Division opener on Tuesday.
Catcher Kaiden Hoapili had two hits and two RBI for the Seahawks (7-13, 0-1). Jayson Schmeisser, Malakai DuBreuil, and Nico Hilger each had a hit and run scored.
SLV alum John Clinkenbeard had two hits, one walk, one RBI, and scored twice for the Panthers (10-11, 1-0). Santa Cruz alum Emmet Desmond had a walk, double, and one RBI.
Oscar Knapp pitched two innings and took the loss. Guiller Dareyen pitched three innings and earned the win.
Cabrillo plays at Hartnell on Thursday at 2:30 p.m.

Scotts Valley 12, at Leland 3 >> Jazzy Doubek had three hits, three RBI, and a run scored in the Falcons’ nonleague win Tuesday.
Taylor Wilson had three hits, including a double, two RBI, and three runs scored. Jazzy Phillips had three hits and two RBI. Gracie Delgado had a hit, two RBI, and three runs scored.
Winning pitcher Sofie Seese struck out five batters over two innings.
Scotts Valley (6-2) competes in the Monterey Tournament on Saturday. It faces Monterey at 9 a.m., Mountain View at 10:30 a.m., and Chico at 1:30 p.m.
Beach volleyball
At Harbor 4, Aptos 1 >> Seniors Isla Johnson and Maren O’Farrell beat Kenzie Smith and Chloe Luis 21-14, 21-10 in the No. 1 match of the Pirates Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League win Tuesday.
Aptos freshmen Sienna Fozzati and Caitlin Lavelle won 17-21, 21-18, 15-12 in the No. 2 match.
Dylan Schutz and Liberty Niesen (21-6, 21-11), Cecile November and Lise Corstorphine (21-9, 21-9), and Marina Tucker and Coco Castro (21-18, 21-12) also earned wins for the Pirates.
Harbor (3-0, 1-0) hosts Mount Madonna and Pacific Collegiate on March 26 at 4 p.m.

At Chabot 5, Cabrillo 4 >> Brisea Rivera hit a two-run home run in the Seahawks’ Coast Conference loss Tuesday.
Cameron Llamas had two hits, two stolen bases, and a run scored for the Seahawks. Charileen Pauneto had a hit, RBI, and run scored.
Sisavaii Fonua had a double, two home runs, and five RBI for the Gladiators (9-8-1, 2-0).
Cabrillo (2-18-1, 0-2) plays at San Jose City (21-1, 2-0) on Thursday at 3 p.m.

Santa Cruz 206, Scotts Valley 226 >> Tobin McClendon and Sam Wickens each shot 39 to share medalist honors at DeLaveaga Golf Club on Tuesday to help the Cardinals win their SCCAL opener.
Cliff Chesnut (41), Braden Brooks (42), and Santi Toledo (45) also scored for the Cardinals.
Adrian Creamer (43), Gavin Doherty (44), Brogan Beasley (46), Seamus Drees (46), and Zane Siechen (47) scored for the Falcons.
Men’s tennis
Haverford 5, UCSC 2 >> No. 3 singles player Mayur Nookala earned UCSC’s lone singles win, but the Banana Slugs dropped their match held at Claremont-Mudd-Scripps on Tuesday.
Four of UCSC’s five singles losses went to a decisive third set.
The No. 1 team of Andrew Tjoa and Adam Hidas, and No. 3 Rocco Melendez and Benjamin Wang won doubles matches to earn a point for UCSC.
UCSC (4-6) hosts Colorado College on March 21 at 12:30 p.m.
Girls lacrosse
At Carmel 13, Scotts Valley 7 >> Senior midfielder Sofia Niklaus had five goals and two assists, but the Falcons suffered their first loss in program history to the Padres on Tuesday.
Niklaus also had 16 draw possessions for an 80% win rate, two draw controls. Defensively, she had four groundballs, and two caused turnovers,
Senior midfielder Skylar Dufour had two goals, an assist, and 13 draw controls.
Aptos 12, at Soquel 6 >> Senior Reilly Kerko had two goals and two forced turnovers in the Knights’ loss Monday.
Junior Addie Somerville also scored twice for Soquel, and classmates Ayla Hymes and Zoe Horn also scored a goal.
Freshman goalie Gianna Williams made 18 saves for the Knights.
Boys volleyball
At Scotts Valley 3, Aptos 0 >> Sophomore outside hitter Ben Luckey had two kills, two aces, and a block in the Falcons’ 25-13, 25-15, 25- 14 win in their SCCAL opener Tuesday.
Defensive specialist Neo Ciotti had four digs and an ace.
