A 17-year-old was fatally shot by a homeowner Tuesday after an attempted garage robbery, according to the White Lake Township Police Department.
Early Tuesday morning, a group of seven individuals entered a detached garage at a residence in the 9000 block of Mandon Drive, authorities said. The homeowner was alerted to the incident through a video surveillance system.
The resident exited the residence and fired several shots toward the group who entered the garage, authorities said. All seven fled the scene on foot.
Oakland County Central Dispatch notified township police that there were two 17-year-olds in Commerce Township at and near Huron Valley Hospital with gunshot wounds, authorities said.
Despite lifesaving efforts, one of the teens succumbed to their injuries, police said. The other was stabilized and is receiving medical treatment.
“The investigation is still open and ongoing, and the Oakland County Prosecutor’s Office has been looped in. We’re working close with them,” said Police Lt. Matthew Ivory. “Ultimately, they’ll get all of our investigation and they’ll make a decision on charging.”
