Age 64, died peacefully on November 5, 2024 after a long battle with cancer, surrounded by his loving wife Margie and his children Phil, Matt, Nick and Claire. John grew up in St.

Paul and lived there until moving to Mendota Heights in 1998. John was an avid outdoorsman who loved fishing, hunting, boating and golfing. He was a great storyteller with a big laugh and even bigger personality. Above all, John was a loving husband, father, brother and friend who treasured the time he spent with them. John was preceded in death by parents Jim and Wini Bettenburg, in-laws Bob Francomb, Kristi Bettenburg, and Paul and Michael Grant. He is survived by his wife Margie, his children Phil (Jodie), Matt (Kathleen Vasquez), Nick and Claire, and grandchildren Eloise Bettenburg and Eli Vasquez Shaughnessy. He is also survived by his siblings Ann (Tom Kukielka), Jody (Marty Duda), Tom (Sue), Mary (Scott) Hallman, Phil, Patrick, Dan (Ellen) and Mike (Kerry). He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, dear family and friends.

Visitation 5-8pm TOMORROW Friday, November 8 at O’Halloran &Murphy Funeral Home, 575 Snelling Ave. S., St. Paul. Mass of Christian Burial 11am Saturday, November 9 at the Church of St. Joseph, 1154 Seminole Ave., West St. Paul with visitation one hour prior to Mass. Burial Resurrection Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.
