Aleksei Kolosov became the first Belarusian-born goalie in NHL history Sunday night when he started for the Philadelphia Flyers against the Montreal Canadiens.

The 22-year-old Kolosov was recalled by the Flyers, who have gotten spotty goaltending so far from starter Samuel Ersson and backup Ivan Fedotov, on Saturday and immediately inserted into the lineup against Montreal. He made 20 saves in Philadelphia’ 4-3 loss — the Flyers’ seventh in eight games.

Nick Suzuki and Brendan Gallagher each had a goal and an assist to lead Montreal. Travis Sanheim had a pair of goals for Philadelphia..

Kolosov was a third round pick by the Flyers in 2021. He spent parts of four seasons in the KHL before coming over to North America for the first time at the end of last season, playing in two games with the Lehigh Valley Phantoms, the Flyers’ AHL affiliate.

Kolosov and the Flyers had a tumultuous summer. First, the goalie chose not to take part in rookie camp in July and later didn’t report for the start of training camp, citing a desire to avoid playing in the AHL again.

Oilers 3, Red Wings 2, OT: Leon Draisaitl scored his second goal of the game 18 seconds into overtime and Edmonton won at Detroit.

Evan Bouchard also scored and Calvin Pickard stopped 25 shots to help the Oilers win their second straight. Connor McDavid and defenseman Mattias Ekholm each had two assists.

Andrew Copp had a goal and an assist, and J.T. Compher also scored for the Red Wings.

Avalanche 5, Senators 4: Nathan MacKinnon had a goal and an assist, Casey Mittelstadt had three assists and Colorado held on to beat Ottawa.
