Low pressure moving across the Midwest brought heavy rainfall to portions of the area. Largest amounts were observed across the north and northwest portions of the metro area, with more than 2 inches of rain observed in Glenview and Wilmette. Officially, the 1.58-inch total at O’Hare International Airport was the greatest calendar-day rainfall since Sept. 18, 2015, when thunderstorms brought 2.41 inches. Wednesday’s soaking also made this the city’s wettest Oct. 26th on record. Rain, low overcast and east winds limited daytime temperatures to the upper 40s.

Thursday, the rain system will cross the lower Great Lakes, allowing our temperatures to moderate slightly. Significantly warmer air is to sweep into the area Friday, when readings are forecast reach September-level 70s.
