A shooting in Pontiac on Tuesday night left an 18-year-old man dead and a 19-year-old man hospitalized in critical condition, officials said.

According to the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office, two males are in custody after the gun violence, and deputies have identified two other suspects who were at-large as of Wednesday morning.

The shooting happened shortly before 8 p.m. near West South Boulevard and Highland Avenue in Pontiac.

Deputies responding to a report of multiple people shot found the 18-year-old unresponsive with a gunshot wound to the chest, the sheriff’s office said. Deputies began life-saving measures, and paramedics with the Waterford Regional Fire Department took over and then transported him to an area hospital, where he died from his injuries, the sheriff’s office said.

The 19-year-old victim was transported to a hospital by a citizen, underwent surgery and is expected to survive, the sheriff’s office said.

Two suspects were arrested a short time after the gunfire.

“I commend the quick response by our team and the efficient work by our detectives to identify individuals involved,” Sheriff Michael Bouchard stated in a news release. “Senseless violence destroys far too many lives and as a society, we must find a better path.”

As an investigation continues, anyone with additional information on the shooting is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK-UP.

A reward of up to $2,000 is offered for information leading to an arrest in the case. Tipsters remain anonymous.
