You have questions. I have some answers.

Q My favorite fictional sleuth, John D. MacDonald’s Travis McGee, has been poorly served by Hollywood and TV, with only two movies about him, and one moving him from Florida to California! Are there any plans to revive this ‘60s pulp fiction icon?

A I had my share of paperbacks by MacDonald (1916-1986), whose vast body of work included the novel that inspired “Cape Fear” and 21 McGee novels. While there were many screen adaptations of other of his books, there were indeed only two movies with McGee: “Darker Than Amber” (1970), with Rod Taylor as McGee, and “Travis McGee” (1983) with Sam Elliott in the title role (and that California setting).

About 10 years ago, there were reports that Leonardo DiCaprio planned to star in a film version of “The Deep Blue Good-by,” the first McGee novel. But DiCaprio changed his mind. Christian Bale was then said to star, only to drop out as well in 2015 after tearing his ACL. (While Bale did manage to star in “The Big Short” after the injury, the Hollywood Reporter noted that the McGee project was “a far more physically intensive shoot.”) That’s the last I have heard of a McGee movie, although the big names circling around it suggest that someone will get back to it one day.

Q I just watched “Long Bright River” with Amanda Seyfried on Crave. Will there be a second season?

A There have been no announced plans so far. Still, the eight-episode drama, which has aired on Crave in Canada and Peacock in the U.S., certainly sounds like it could have sequels. Peacock appeared to dampen expectations when it first called the production based on Liz Moore’s novel a “limited drama series.” But it has also been more broadly called “a suspense thriller series,” which seems to leave open the possibility of more.

Q Is “Brilliant Minds” with Zachary Quinto being renewed for a second season? My husband and I really enjoyed watching it.

A NBC has indeed ordered a second season of the medical-mystery drama for Monday nights this fall.

Q We are big British mystery fans! Why have we never seen the terrific “Cadfael” series with Derek Jacobi replayed on PBS? The stories were intriguing and “no guns”!

A While you have not found it on PBS, the 1994-98 drama about a 12th-century monk solving murders has not disappeared. Subscription streamer BritBox has the series based on Ellis Peters’ novels, and Prime Video carries it for a fee. There is also a DVD set, and you may find that in your local library. Or you can see episodes on YouTube.

Q I just finished watching the Season 4 finale of “Hacks.” Will there be a fifth season?

A Yes. The comedy starring Jean Smart and Hannah Einbinder has gotten the go-ahead for more from Max. And the renewal is well deserved, with the show’s whip-smart writing and a top cast.
