Watsonville High’s boys volleyball team suffered a 25-16, 25-16, 25-18 loss to visiting Alisal in a Central Coast Section play-in match on Thursday night.

Alisal (13-8, 6-3), the Pacific Coast Athletic League Gabilan Division third-place finisher, advances to the playoffs, and Watsonville (15-9, 14-0), the PCAL’s Cypress Division champion, sees its season come to a close.

It was the teams’ second meeting. The Trojans also earned a 3-0 sweep in nonleague action March 11.

“We did much better than when we played them in the beginning in the season,” Wildcatz coach Crystal Cornejo-Perez said. “Also, we were missing one of our starters who would bring in a lot of blocks, Andres Cardenas. However, the team still played with heart. What held us back was lack of confidence and communication.”

The CCS seeding meeting is Saturday and the first round of the playoffs begins Monday evening.
