Angel Tree program in need of volunteers
Opportunity Enterprises is seeking members of the community interested in participating in its annual Angel Tree program either by providing a gift for a specific OE client in need or by making a monetary or gift card donation to be used to buy gifts. FAFSA filing assistance offered
United Way of Porter County and Valparaiso University are partnering to offer Free Application for Federal Student Aid filing services Dec. 9, Jan. 13, Feb. 10 and March 10 at United Way of Porter County, 951 Eastport Centre Drive, Valparaiso. The program is free and open to all individuals seeking assistance to file their college financial aid papers. Participation is by appointment only. Adult Learning Center open registration
The Crown Point Adult Learning Center, an affiliate of the Center of Workforce Innovations, is conducting open registration from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., 1 to 4 p.m. and 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays at 928-B S. Court St. for individuals seeking to attain their high school equivalency and learn English as a second language. Students also can learn skill training in welding, certified nursing assistant, CDL, entry-level manufacturing, emergency management technician, pharmacy technician and hospitality. Pet photos with Santa in Lake County
Lake County Animal Adoption and Control will host its annual opportunity for pets to meet and have their picture taken with Santa Claus from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Dec. 10 at 3011 W. 93rd Ave., Crown Point. Admission is a $15 donation. All proceeds will benefit the operation of the Lake County Animal adoption and Control Center. Maple Sugar Time preparations
Join staff and volunteers from 9 a.m. to noon Dec. 17 at Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore's Chellberg Farm, 618 N. Mineral Springs Road, Porter, to help prepare for maple sugar time, which will be held in March. Volunteers will be splitting and stacking firewood, as well as clearing the paths in the sugar bush. Hospital offers community programs
Community Hospital has announced its schedule of upcoming free classes. Weight Loss Options to Fit Your Life will explore the various aspects of the medical weight loss journey from noon to 1:15 p.m. Dec. 19 at the Community Hospital Medical Office Building, 801 MacArthur Blvd., Munster. A grandparents class, where participants will learn new practices and recommendations for infant care, will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Dec. 20 at Community Hospital Outpatient Centre, 9660 Wicker Ave., St. John. Infant massage and baby's development will provide an introduction to the first year of life from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Dec. 20 at Fitness Pointe, 9950 Calumet Ave., Munster.
