The electric Orlando area high school football rivalry pitting Edgewater vs. Jones, which has seen the teams split four games in the past two seasons, will play out again Sept. 7 at Camping World Stadium.

Unlike the 2022 and ’23 showdowns, which saw Edgewater win regular-season games before Jones prevailed in playoff rematches, this year’s collision will not be a district game as the Eagles and Tigers are back to being in different classifications.

Edgewater is Class 5A and Jones is 4A in the Florida High School Athletic Association’s realignment for the next two seasons.

The state playoff format is familiar: four district champions within each region are guaranteed berths and will be joined by four at-large teams based on FHSAA rankings computed by MaxPreps.

After separating metro and suburban schools in 2022 and ’23 the FHSAA board of directors voted to return to its traditional format, which uses just one factor — student enrollment counts — to place schools across the eight football classifications.
