Fresh off her team winning the Women’s Basketball Invitational, Minnesota coach Dawn Plitzuweit has experienced guard depth through the NCAA transfer portal. Brylee Glenn comes as a grad transfer after playing three seasons at Kansas State.

Glen was an integral part on a Wildcats team that went 27-7 overall, 13-5 in the Big 12 and advanced to the NCAA tournament, where she earned a combined seven points, four rebounds, four assists and three steals in a victory over Portland and loss to Colorado.

Glenn is 5-foot-11 and started all 34 of the Wildcats’ games, averaging 6.3 points, 2.2 rebounds and 1.1 assists. She is originally from Kansas City, Mo.

Five-run fourth sends Saints to victory at Iowa

The St. Paul Saints concluded a two-game losing streak with an 11-8 win over the Iowa Cubs in Des Moines, Ia.

A five-run fourth inning, punctuated by a homer off the bat of Carson McCusker made all the difference on the night.

Ryan Jensen snagged the win with 1 2/3 innings of relief of starter Randy Dobnak, who allowed five earned runs in four innings of work.

Women’s golf 16th at Big Ten Championships

The Minnesota women’s golf team completed the first 18 holes of the Big Ten Championships in 16th place, shooting a 307 (+19).

Mariana Mesones and Isabella McCauley are both tied for 47th place after each shooting a day one 76 (+4).

Ruby Chi and Madison Le finished the day within a stroke of each other. Chi shot a 77 (+5) to close the day tied for 59th. Le sits tied for 68th after tallying a 78 (+6).

Reese McCauley is tied for 83th place with a day one score of 82 (+10).

Baseball tops Rutgers in Big Ten play

The Gophers baseball team bested Rutgers 3-2 in a Big Ten matchup.

Joe Sperry (4-0) started on the mound and picked up the win for Minnesota (19-17, 6-10 Big Ten). He went six innings, giving up two earned runs on three hits, allowing two walks and striking out three.

Thomas retains lead at RBC Heritage

Justin Thomas made a pair of birdies on the crusty, breezy back nine at Harbour Town to salvage a 2-under 69 for a two-shot lead at the RBC Heritage, his first 36-hole lead in more than four years.

Thomas is winless since the 2022 PGA Championship.

Si Woo Kim and Russell Henry are both two shots off the pace after carding a 64 and 68, respectively.

Lindblad, Buhai lead LPGA’s LA Championship

Ingrid Lindblad took a share of the lead into the weekend at El Caballero Country Club in only the fourth start of her rookie season on the LPGA Tour.

Lindblad shot a career-best 9-under 63 in cool conditions Friday afternoon to join Ashleigh Buhai atop the leaderboard at 13-under 131 in the JM Eagle LA Championship.

Chisholm suspended one game for antics

New York Yankees second baseman Jazz Chisholm Jr. has been suspended for one game and fined by Major League Baseball following his ejection during a game at the Tampa Bay Rays and violation of MLB’s social media policy.

Chisholm appealed, delaying any penalties until after a resolution.

Chisholm was ejected in the seventh inning on Thursday night by plate umpire John Bacon when Chisholm argued after a called third strike on a full-count pitch.

Rodriguez to get 2nd opinion on shoulder

Baltimore Orioles right-hander Grayson Rodriguez will get a second opinion on his sore right shoulder after undergoing an MRI.

Rodriguez has not pitched in a regular-season game since July 31 and has been rehabbing from right elbow inflammation issue, though he made spring training appearances on Feb. 27 and March 5.

The 25-year-old right-hander is 20-8 with a 4.11 ERA in 43 MLB starts.

Ohtani off for impending birth of first child

Shohei Ohtani is away from the Los Angeles Dodgers for the birth of his first child. Manager Dave Roberts says Ohtani is going on the paternity list and is with his wife.

Roberts said before the Dodgers’ series opener in Texas that he doesn’t know when Ohtani is going to rejoin the team or details about the pending birth.

The two-way superstar can miss up to three games while on paternity leave. The Dodgers are in Texas this weekend.

Brewers call up Durbin, send Dunn down

The Milwaukee Brewers continued their third base shuffle by calling up Caleb Durbin, one day after sending Oliver Dunn to Triple-A Nashville.

Durbin, 25, was batting .278 with a .316 on-base percentage, two homers, three RBIs and three steals in 13 games with Nashville.

Rays call up speedster Simpson from Triple-A

The Tampa Bay Rays promoted speedy prospect Chandler Simpson before starting a weekend series the New York Yankees.

The 24-year-old Simpson is the No. 7 prospect in the Rays’ organization, according to MLB Pipeline. He stole 104 bases and led all minor league players with a .355 batting average in 2024.

In 17 games with Triple-A Durham, Simpson was hitting .301 with eight steals.

To make room, the Rays placed outfielder Richie Palacios on the 10-day injured list with a knee sprain.

Duke’s Proctor skipping senior season for NBA

Duke guard Tyrese Proctor is entering the NBA draft and skipping his senior season.

The 6-foot-6, 183-pound junior from Australia averaged 12.4 points while shooting a career-best 45.2% from the field and 40.5% from 3-point range this year, helping Duke win a second Atlantic Coast Conference tournament title in three seasons.
