Gusty thunderstorms and hail pelted eastern Kentucky and Virginia over the weekend as weather there remained unsettled due to a slow-moving area of low pressure. By contrast, this feature has been helping to provide the Chicago area with a period of sunny skies. Subsiding air along the periphery of the circulation over the Appalachians will bring us sunshine and day-to-day warming through much of the week. After weekend temps that averaged about 9 degrees below normal, 90-degree temps are due to arrive across parts of the area by Wednesday. The warming will be tempered by east winds on Monday, but lake cooling is to relax thereafter as our flow turns southerly. Dew points, initially in the 40s on Monday, will gradually rise through the week, eventually fueling scattered storms, but not until the weekend.
