Benny Gealer had career highs with seven 3-pointers and 30 points to lead Stanford to a 95-75 victory over SMU at home on Saturday afternoon.
Gealer shot 8 of 12 from the floor to surpass his previous career-best 21 points and six 3s. He hit his seventh 3 against SMU from deep with 2:32 remaining.
Ebuka Okorie added 22 points for Stanford (18-11, 7-9 Atlantic Coast Conference). Aidan Cammann chipped in with 15 points.
Stanford took the lead for good about two minutes in and led 34-27 at the break. The Cardinal stretched the advantage to 14 points early in the second half before SMU used a 12-4 surge to cut the deficit to 53-47 with 11:24 remaining.
Stanford answered with a 19-4 run that ended with a Jeremy Dent-Smith 3-pointer followed by a pair of free throws from Gealer that gave the Cardinal a 72-51 advantage with 7:50 to play.
Boopie Miller scored 26 points and Jaron Pierre Jr. added 21 for SMU (19-10, 8-8).
Stanford matched its highest scoring output this season. The Cardinal beat then-No. 14 North Carolina 95-90 on Jan. 14, and Georgia Tech 95-72 on Feb. 7.
Pittsburgh 72, Cal 56: Nojus Indrusaitis and Cameron Corhen each scored 16 points to lead Pittsburgh (11-18, 4-12 ACC) to a surprise victory over Cal (20-9, 8-8), which saw a three-game winning streak come to an end.
Pitt never trailed and built an early 10-point lead in the second half before Cal pulled within 47-44 with 13:05 remaining. Indrusaitis answered with 10 points that included two 3-pointers and a dunk during an 18-7 surge to help the Panthers pull away.
Barry Dunning Jr. added 15 points and 12 rebounds for Pitt.
Dai Dai Ames scored 11 points and Lee Dort added 10 for Cal.
Colorado State 85, San Jose State 73: Brandon Rechsteiner’s 20 points helped Colorado State (19-10, 10-8 Mountain West Conference) defeat the Spartans (8-21, 3-15) in San Jose for its seventh straight victory.
Colby Garland led the way for the Spartans with 28 points, eight assists and two steals. Melvin Bell Jr. added 15 points and six rebounds for San Jose State.
USF 72, Pacific 61: David Fuchs had 29 points as San Francisco (16-15, 8-10 WCC) knocked off Pacific (17-14, 8-10) in Stockton.
Tyrone Riley IV scored 12 points and added five rebounds and three steals.
Elias Ralph finished with 19 points, 10 rebounds and two steals for the Tigers.
No. 16 Texas Tech 82, No. 4 Iowa State 73: Donovan Atwell scored 18 points to lead No. 16 Texas Tech over No. 4 Iowa State that sent the Cyclones to their first home loss of the season.
Iowa State (24-5, 11-5 Big 12) was 15-0 at Hilton Coliseum before the Red Raiders (22-7, 12-4) came in and ended the streak, building a 20-point first-half run and fighting off a second-half surge by the Cyclones.
Texas Tech, playing the rest of the season without JT Toppin, the reigning Big 12 player of the year, stayed in a second-place tie with Houston, two games behind leader Arizona, heading into the final week of the regular season. Iowa State dropped into a tie for fourth with Kansas.
West Virginia 79, No. 19 BYU 71: Honor Huff scored 19 points, Brenen Lorient added 18 and West Virginia (17-12, 8-8 Big 12) led the entire second half and beat No. 19 BYU (20-9, 8-8), which got Robert Wright III scored 23 points and 20 from star AJ Dybantsa.
WOMEN
Santa Clara 90, USF 82 OT: Maia Jones scored a game-high 29 points to lead Santa Clara (23-8, 13-5 WCC) to an overtime victory over the Dons (16-13, 9-9) on Senior Day.
Jones’ layup with 19 seconds left in regulation sent the game to overtime. Ashley Hawkins had 18 points and Ava Schmidt added 26 to help Santa Clara overcome a 14-point deficit in the fourth quarter.
USF got a team-high 23 points from Candy Edokpaigbe.
