Resident of San Jose

Jean Phyllis Lo, born on May 26, 1936, in Astoria, Oregon, passed away peacefully on January 23, 2025, in San Jose, California after a short battle with cancer. She was 88 years old.

Jean was the beloved wife of George Lo, with whom she shared a remarkable 67+ years of marriage. Together, they built a loving family that includes their three children: Debbie, Jeff, and Laura. Jean was also a proud grandmother to Amanda, Gianna, and Ethan, cherishing every moment spent with them.

Jean earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of Oregon and went on to complete her master’s degree at Washington State University. She was also a Certified Medical Technologist. Later in life, she pursued her passions by taking art, photography, and design classes at West Valley College and San Jose State University.

Jean loved traveling the world with George after his retirement, exploring destinations like Australia, Europe, the Panama Canal, and even fulfilling her long-time dream of visiting Antarctica. She documented her travels with photographs and always brought back magnets as souvenirs. At home, she was grateful for time with her son and granddaughter who live nearby and treasured visiting Southern California to see her two daughters and two grandchildren.

Jean had a zest for life that was truly unique. In earlier years, she baked homemade birthday cakes for her children, cooked elaborate Chinese meals and shared chocolate cake for breakfast with her granddaughters. She loved to laugh, cherished her cat and didn’t believe in taking anything too seriously. She was colorful and loved being “Grandma.” She was also a self-proclaimed 12-year-old that pursued life with the energy to match.

Her spunky sense of humor, vibrant spirit and love for her family defined her life.

Jean’s memory will live on in the hearts of her family and friends as they remember her laughter, radiant energy, and the joy she brought into their lives. May her memory bring comfort to all who knew and loved her.
