Two Warren police officers recently had a routine call for service turn into an opportunity to help a local family.

Officers Brian Stanko and Chad Rossow responded to a call for service at a home in southwest Warren where they met Lillian Holt.

She is a single mother of two teenage sons who works the midnight shift at a local factory. In speaking with Holt, it became clear to the two officers she was struggling to make ends meet and provide necessities for her children.

When Rossow and Stanko saw the immense hardship Holt was facing, they made a choice to go above and beyond the call of duty to help a member of the community.

On their own time, the officers mobilized friends and family and secured donations of furniture, including couches and a bed, to improve the Holt home. The two officers even donated some of their own furniture including a king-sized bed, dresser, TV and other essential furnishings.

Rossow contacted Wal-Mart and secured a donation of a twin bed set, sheets, and other items. Recognizing how stretched Holt’s budget already was, Rossow contributed $300 out of his own pocket to purchase much-needed groceries and food for Holt’s family.

Once all of the items were gathered, Rossow went to Holt’s home on his day off and surprised her with a trailer full of all of the donated items.

She was moved beyond words for what these officers did for her family after meeting her during a routine call for service.

Warren Police Commissioner Eric Hawkins praised the officers and called their actions “a true testament to their generosity and humility.”

“Their actions exemplify the very best of what we want our officers to be: protectors, helpers, and compassionate members of the community who go above and beyond to make a truly positive impact in the lives of those we serve,” said Hawkins.
