Jaxson Dart rushed toward Cam Skattebo as the standout running back was about to get carted off the field with an ugly-looking ankle injury and gave his Giants teammate a little headbutt.

The signature smack bonded the two rookies, and Dart wasn’t about to let the moment pass — especially because it could be their last in a while.

Skattebo suffered a dislocated right ankle that could cost him the rest of the season early in the Giants’ 38-20 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday. The Giants said Skattebo would have surgery Sunday night at an area hospital.

“That’s my boy, man,” Dart said. “That sucks. It’s just the worst part of the game.”

Skattebo was taken to the hospital for evaluation after he took a hard hit over the middle on a pass attempt in the second quarter. He went down and immediately smacked his helmet in pain. Skattebo’s foot appeared to be bent in an unnatural direction as both Giants and Eagles players huddled around him until he could be helped off the field.

The 23-year-old Skattebo, a fourth-round pick out of Arizona State in the 2025 draft, had an air cast on his lower right leg when he was driven off the field. He raised his right arm in appreciation of the ovation from the Eagles crowd.

Former Jets center Mangold, 41, dies

Nick Mangold’s long, blond hair and bushy beard made him instantly recognizable. His gritty, outstanding performances on the field for the New York Jets made him one of the franchise’s greatest players.

Mangold, a two-time All-Pro center who helped lead the Jets to the AFC championship game twice, has died, the team announced Sunday. He was 41.

The Jets said in a statement that Mangold died Saturday night from complications of kidney disease. His death came less than two weeks after the two-time All-Pro selection announced on social media that he had kidney disease and needed a transplant.

Carol Davis, widow of Al Davis, dies at 93

Carol Davis, the widow of longtime Raiders owner Al Davis and the mother of current owner Mark Davis, has died. She was 93.

The Raiders announced that Carol Davis, known as “The First Lady of Raider Nation,” died on Friday and that Mark lit the Al Davis Memorial Torch at Allegiant Stadium on Sunday in her honor.

Barkley breaks out as philly routs Giants

Saquon Barkley burst free for a 65-yard touchdown on his first carry and topped 100 yards rushing for the first time this season before he left with a groin injury, the kind of setback that could derail last season’s 2,000-yard rusher just as he was playing like his old self.

Hold up, Barkley said. He’s fine, honest.

Barkley said he likely could have finished the game had the Philadelphia Eagles not been dominating the New York Giants.

Tua throws 4 TD passes as miami finally wins

Tua Tagovailoa may have to consider making a helmet visor more than a one-time addition to his uniform.

Tagovailoa’s teammates like the look. Plus, why change back after the quarterback ended a spree of interceptions with his best game of the season while wearing the new accessory?

Tagovailoa threw a season-high four touchdown passes and the Miami Dolphins ended their three-game losing streak by dominating the short-handed Atlanta Falcons 34-10 on Sunday.

Maye throws 3 TDs as pats win 5th straight

New England Patriots coach Mike Vrabel wanted to add energy in Gillette Stadium after watching his team lose two of its first three games at home to open the season.

He did it by bringing back individual pregame introductions for the first time since 2001. It might have been exactly the boost New England needed.

Drake Maye threw three second-half touchdown passes to help the Patriots erase an early deficit and roll to their fifth straight victory, 32-13 over the Cleveland Browns on Sunday.

It came on a day where Browns star edge rusher Myles Garrett finished with a franchise-record and career-high five sacks, raising his season total to 10.

backup Huntley leads Ravens past Bears

Derrick Henry ran for two touchdowns, Tyler Huntley made a big third-down throw late in the fourth quarter and the Baltimore Ravens finally won without Lamar Jackson, beating the Chicago Bears 30-16 on Sunday.

The Ravens (2-5) snapped a four-game skid and ended Chicago’s four-game winning streak. The Bears (4-3) dominated the first quarter, but managed only two field goals in that period and didn’t score again until the fourth.

Taylor milestone

Indianapolis running back Jonathan Taylor became the first player in NFL history to score three touchdowns in three consecutive games against the same team Sunday when the Colts defeated the Tennessee Titans 38-14.

Taylor scored on runs of 18 yards in the first quarter and 80 yards on Indy’s first play of the second half before taking a Daniel Jones pass 19 yards for a score to give Indy a 38-7 lead early in the fourth.
