Brandon Lowe hit a tying two-run homer in the fifth inning and the Tampa Bay Rays overcame an eight-run deficit to beat the Baltimore Orioles 12-8 on Wednesday night in Tampa, Fla., in the largest comeback in the majors this season.

Junior Camerino had four hits and two RBIs to help Tampa Bay match the biggest comeback in franchise history. Tampa Bay also rallied from eight down in a 10-8 victory over the Angels on Aug. 18, 2012, and in a 10-9 win over Toronto on July 25, 2009.

The Orioles last gave away an eight-run lead on April 28, 2017 in a 14-11 loss to the New York Yankees. The largest blown lead in franchise history came in a 14-13 victory over Detroit on April 25, 1901, when the team was based in Milwaukee.

Baltimore had an eight-run second inning. Colton Cowser hit a three-run homer, Cedric Mullins added a solo shot, Gunnar Henderson had an RBI single and Laureano hit another three-run homer.

Christopher Morel hit an RBI double and Jake Mangum’s two-run single cut it to 8-3 in the third. Curtis Mead hit a two-out triple in the fourth, and Lowe’s homer in the fifth made it 8-8. Jonathan Aranda had a two-run single int he Rays’ four-run seventh.

Lowe has at least a hit and a run in seven consecutive games, the longest active streak of its kind in the majors. He’s batting .464 (13 of 28) with two home runs, five RBIs and eight runs during that span.

Guardians 4, Giants 2: Daniel Schneeman hit a three-run home run to keep Justin Verlander winless in a San Francisco uniform, powering visiting Cleveland over the Giants.

Verlander (0-4) allowed four runs (three earned) in 4 2/3 innings after being activated off the injured list earlier in the day. The nine-time All-Star gave up seven hits and had six strikeouts in his first start since May 18.

Kyle Manzardo doubled twice and Jose Ramirez added an RBI-single to help the Guardians clinch their first series win in San Francisco since 2005. Heliot Ramos homered for the Giants.

Braves 5, Mets 0: Chris Sale went 8 2/3 innings just missing his first shutout since 2019, Ronald Acuña Jr. and Matt Olson hit home runs, and host Atlanta handed New York its season-high fifth straight loss.

Sale (5-4) allowed five hits and one walk. He struck out seven and did not allow a runner past second base. He threw 116 pitches before giving way to Raisel Iglesias, who got a groundout to end the game.

Sale has given up four runs in his last 41 2/3 innings for a 0.86 ERA in his last six starts.

Rockies 3, Nationals 1: Michael Toglia and Jordan Beck hit solo homers and Germán Márquez gave up six hits in 5 2/3 scoreless innings to help visiting Colorado beat Washington, extending the Nationals’ losing streak to 11 games.

The Rockies have won four straight games for the first time this season.

Blue Jays 8, Diamondbacks 1: Bo Bichette had a home run among his three hits, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. reached base five times and drove in three and host Toronto won.

Left-hander Eric Lauer (3-1) pitched five innings to help Toronto improve to 24-13 at home.

Guerrero walked in his first three plate appearances, including an intentional pass in the third. He hit a two-run double in the sixth and singled home a run in the seventh.

Phillies 4, Marlins 2: Bryson Stott hit a three-run homer, Ranger Suárez pitched seven effective innings and Philadelphia won in Miami.

Suárez (6-1) permitted one run and four hits in another solid performance since his return from an early season back injury. He struck out eight and walked two.

Red Sox 3, Mariners 1: Trevor Story hit a two-run home run and Garrett Crochet pitched six innings of one-run ball as visiting Boston beat Seattle.

Story went below the strike zone to get a hold of a sinker from Mariners starter Luis Castillo (4-5) in the fourth inning and deposited it beyond the wall in left-center field to break a 1-1 tie.

Royals 6, Rangers 3: Maikel Garcia homered and drove in four runs, helping Kansas City win in Arlington, Texas.

Garcia capped Kansas City’s four-run third inning with a three-run drive for his career-best eighth homer. He also tripled in Bobby Witt Jr. in the eighth.

Reds 4, Twins 2 (6): Spencer Steer hit a two-run home run and Nick Lodolo allowed two runs on three hits in five innings to help host Cincinnati beat Minnesota in a game called in the sixth inning because of rain.

The start was delayed two hours and seven minutes by severe weather. With two outs in the bottom of the sixth, rain returned and the game was called after a 53-minute delay.

Postponements: Three games were postponed because of rain. The Cardinals’ game at the White Sox was rescheduled for today as a straight doubleheader. The Pirates’ game at the Tigers will be played as a part of a split doubleheader today, The Brewers-Cubs game will be made up as part of a split doubleheader on Aug. 18.
