Santa Cruz native Luke Rockhold, a former Strikeforce and UFC middleweight champion, will box against MMA fighter Darren Till in Misfits Boxing 22 in Manchester, England, on Aug. 30.

The bridgerweight match (200 to 224 pounds) between Till, 32, and Rockhold, 40, will serve as a co-main event and will air live on DAZN.

Former UFC interim lightweight champion Tony Ferguson will make his pro boxing debut against Nathaniel “Salt Papi” Bustamante in the other middleweight division and serve as the second co-main event.

Rockhold, a Soquel High alum who was granted a release from UFC in 2022, has fought twice outside the promotion. He was defeated by Mike Perry in a second-round TKO in his bare-knuckle boxing debut in 2023 and knocked out Joe Schilling in a Karate Combat match in April 2024.

Gromshells three-peat: The Santa Cruz Derby Groms’ Gromshells three-peated as Junior Roller Derby Association national champions at The Ranch Events Complex in Loveland, Colorado, on July 13.

Santa Cruz beat Seattle Derby Brats’ Galaxy 222-50 in the semifinals and Rose City Rollers’ Rosebuds National All-Stars 124-57 in the Female Division final.

The Gromshells (20-0 overall) routed the Foxtails Junior Derby from Fontana, 488-3, in the semifinals during qualifying on June 21 in Ventura and Seattle Derby Brats 265-27 in the final on June 22.

Endurance Mountain Bike National Championships >> Capitola’s Jack Doherty, who competes for Specialized Flow Formulas, took fourth place in the Amateur Men 19-29 division at the 2025 Endurance Mountain Bike National Championships in Roanoke, Virginia, on Wednesday

Benjamin Boroff of Marian University took first in the nine-lap race in 18:41. Doherty finished five seconds back.

Baseball

West Coast League All-Star Game: Corvallis Knights outfielder Brock Ketelsen, a Scotts Valley resident and incoming freshman at Stanford University, was named the top prospect for the South after it suffered a 5-3 loss to the North in the West Coast League All-Star Game in Bellingham, Washington, on Wednesday.

Ketelsen, a recent graduate of Valley Christian High in San Jose, was 1-for-2 batting with a stolen base.

Little League

10s All-Stars >> District 39 champion Capitola-Soquel lost 4-1 to D-59 champ Santa Teresa in the Section 5 Tournament championship at Pajaro Valley Little League on Tuesday.

Santa Teresa advanced to the NorCal Tournament.
