Peter John McCoy, age 91, of Walnut Creek, CA died Friday morning at home after a tough battle with Parkinson's and Polycythemia Vera. He was born in Berkeley, CA to Cecil and Dorothea (Langguth) McCoy. Along with his sister, Marion, he grew up in Montclair, Oakland.
Besides being ahard worker and provider in all he did, Pete cultivated many long-lasting friendships wherever he went beginning in pre-school and continuing through Piedmont High School where he played right tackle on the football team; in rodeos where he trick-rode, trick-roped, and calf-roped; back-packing with his buddies in the Sierra wilderness; skiing at Tahoe and Sun Valley; astint in the Air Force at Edwards Air Force Base; in the Frontier Boys horse riding group; Diablo Country Club Tennis; in woodworking and handyman; CPC church small group; in business with customers in California, Nevada, Utah, Alaska and Hawaii; in brokers from New York, London England, Antwerp Belgium, Tel Aviv Israel and Perth Australia. Pete worked his entire career building his father's company, C.A. McCoy and Company, into the wonderful importing business that it was until retiring in 1997.
On October 2, 1965, Pete was united in marriage to his loving wife Patricia M Marsh at Lake Tahoe. Their reception was held next door to the dream house they were building. In marrying Pat, Pete took on the role of stepfather to Pat's son, George. In 1970 they moved to their beloved home in Diablo where Pete realized his dream of owning ahome where he could keep his horses.
He rode most Sundays up onto Mount Diablo with friends. One of the happiest days of Pete and Pat's lives was when their daughter, Lori, was born on St. Patrick's Day, 1972. They remained in their Diablo home of 41 years and moved to Rossmoor in 2011.
Pete is survived by his wife of almost 60 years, Pat; daughter Lori (Garrett) Larson of Walnut Creek, CA; grandchildren, Justin (Mallorie) Marsh of Sacramento, CA; Ashley, Perry and Walker Larson; great grandson George Marsh; niece Christine Halverson (Robert) Bowdige of San Jose, CA; nephew Ed Marsh of Kasilof, Alaska, and many friends. Pete was preceded in death by his parents, Cecil and Dorothea (Langguth) McCoy; sister Marion Halverson and step son, George T. Marsh.
A Celebration of Life will be held in the Chapel at Community Presbyterian Church, 222 W. El Pintado, Danville, CA, on Saturday, April 5@ 1:30. A reception with light refreshments will follow at the church. In lieu of flowers, consider a donation to your favorite charity in his name.
