



Santa Cruz High’s Tobin Ortiz-McClendon shot 2-over-par 37 on the front nine at Pasatiempo Golf Club for medalist honors and helped the Cardinals beat Harbor 226-237 in the teams’ Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League match on Tuesday.
Sam Wickens (42), Cliff Chesnut (45), Braeden Brooks (50), and Santi Toledo (52) also scored for the Cardinals.
Kaden Dunton (38), Gunter Krueger (46), Kyler Samples (48), Jake Locknane (50), and Adam Stubblefield (55) scored for the Pirates (0-6).
San Lorenzo Valley 200, at Soquel 222 >> Keenan Buntz shot 35 for medalist honors on the front nine at DeLaveaga Golf Course, and the defending SCCAL champion Cougars remained unbeaten Tuesday.
James Dahlen (36), Luke Fontinell (41), Tanner Brewer (41) and Lochlin Bischoffberger (46) also scored for the Cougars (7-0).
SLV faces Santa Cruz at DeLaveaga on Thursday at 4:30 p.m.
Aptos 198, at Scotts Valley 228 >> Ben Norwark shot 37 for medalist honors, and the Mariners won their SCCAL match at DeLaveaga Golf Course on Tuesday.
Colby Culbertson (39), Leland Blankenship (40), Jack Garvey (40), and Nick Bjorn (42) also scored for the Mariners (4-2).
Noah Tripp (43), Adrian Creamer (45), Brogan Beasley (46), Gavin Doherty (46), and Zane Siechen (48) scored for the Falcons (1-5).
Boys swimming
Santa Cruz 58, at SLV 53 >> Grant Atkinson earned wins in the 100 freestyle (57.77) and 200 individual medley (2:26.57) to help the Cardinals win their SCCAL meet Tuesday.
Other Cardinals’ individual winners were Xavier Hunter in the 100 breaststroke (1:13.29), Liam Stanton in the 100 backstroke (1:22.14), and Robert Murphy in the 500 free (5:47.22).
Santa Cruz also took first in the 200 medley relay (2:02.291) and 200 free relay (1:45.38).
SLV earned wins from Forest McKinley-Newby 200 free (2:30.69), Amir Vered in the 50 free (25.52) and its 400 free relay (4:32.50).
On April 18 at 4:30 p.m., Santa Cruz competes at Soquel, while SLV competes at Aptos.
Girls swimming
Santa Cruz 94, at SLV 57 >> Isla Cooper and Annika Seasholes each won two individual events in the Cardinals’ SCCAL win Tuesday.
Cooper took first in the 100 back (1:20.71) and 200 free (2:31.11), and Seasholes took first in the 100 free (1:01.31) and 200 IM (2:33.92).
Giulia D’Souza won in the 500 free (6:03.25), and the Cardinals prevailed in the 200 free relay (1:58.80) and 400 free relay (4:19.02).
SLV’s Claire Reedy took first in the 50 free (28:15) and 100 fly (1:13.90), and teammate Ellie Tessler took first in the 100 breast (1:33.33). SLV won in the 200 medley relay (2:19.00).
Boys volleyball
At Harbor 3, Aptos 0 >> The Pirates earned a 25-9, 25-20, 25-20 sweep in their SCCAL match Tuesday night.
The Pirates (21-4, 6-1) host SLV on April 22 at 6:30 p.m.
Beach volleyball
At Harbor 4, Santa Cruz 1 >> The No. 5 doubles team of Coco Castro and Marina Tucker rallied from an 18-12 deficit in the first set for a 24-22, 21-16 win to secure the Pirates’ SCCAL team victory Tuesday.
Harbor’s No. 1 team of Isla Johnson and Maren O’Farrell defeated Natalie Monroe and Shelby Leonardich, 21-12, 21-9, and the Pirates also earned wins from No. 2 Tea Stockwell and Grace Stryker won 21-18, 15-21, 15-10 and No. 3 Cecile November and Lise Corstorphine.
Santa Cruz’s Lovela Jones, Chloe Shantz won at No. 4.
Harbor (5-0, 3-0) hosts Castilleja on April 16 at 4 p.m.
Aptos 4, Scotts Valley 1 >> Cia Johnson and Kaia Harrah won 21-18, 21-11 for Aptos at No. 3 doubles, and the Mariners won three other matches in third sets in their SCCAL team win Monday.
Aptos’ Caitlyn Lavalle and Sienna Fozzafi edged Dylan Wing and Rylee Giesen 16-21,21-12,15-13 at No. 2, Isabella Magana and Naomi Fazo beat Maddy Pipal and Grace Gonzales 21-19, 24-26,15-11 at No. 4, and Grace Potter and Elle Mumford beat Remi Maeda and Paige Anderson 10-21, 21-10, 15-7 at No. 5.
Scotts Valley’s Hayden Smith and Aila Papspoulos beat Kenzie Smith and Chloe Luis 14-21, 22-20, 15-13 at No. 1 doubles.
Girls lacrosse
Soquel 13, Santa Cruz 3 >> Junior midfielder Ayla Hymes scored five goals in the Knights’ win Monday.
Senior attacker Reilly Kerko scored three goals for the Knights. Junior midfielder Addie Somerville had two goals and two forced turnovers, and sophomore attacker Ashby Weeks had two goals and two assists. Freshman Malia Morehead also scored a goal.
Juniors Eva Pohlman, Natasha Ribera, and Ben Sommerville each scored a goal for the Cardinals.
Freshman goalie Sydney White made 13 saves for Santa Cruz.
Freshman goalie Gianna Williams made 11 saves for the Knights, who play Salinas at Harbor on Friday at 6 p.m.
