Rescuers retrieve boaters in distress

Seven boaters were rescued from an overturned 14-foot skiff in Tomales Bay, according to the Marin County Fire Department.

The incident on Saturday afternoon involved six adults and a child, said Mari Ochoa, a department spokesperson. Rescuers took the boaters to a boat launch in Marshall, where paramedics evaluated them and transported three to a hospital.

Ochoa said Monday that responders believe that it was a combination of waves and the number of people in the boat that caused it to capsize.

In addition to the fire department, the rescue effort included the U.S. Coast Guard, the California Highway Patrol, the Marin County Sheriff’s Office, and the Gold Ridge and Sonoma County districts.
