It’s time for the last handful of fun facts.

Over the past week, we’ve presented readers with 50 fun facts about the Grand Prix of Long Beach in honor of the iconic race’s 50th anniversary.

On Sunday, we presented the first 15 facts, followed by an additional five each day this week.

We’ve finally made it to our final five facts, so take a look at Nos. 46-50.

The Grand Prix and AT&T teamed up last year to roll out Cells on Wheels, a mobile cell tower aimed at improving cellular connection for its customers at the event — which had been a concern for attendees.

The Grand Prix launched an app to help attendees navigate the event, create personalized race schedules, access ticket information, and more, in 2023.

Ryan Hunter-Reay won the Grand Prix in 2010, becoming the first American to achieve the feat since Michael Andretti in 2002.

Race organizers and fans alike have dubbed the Grand Prix of Long Beach as “Southern California’s 200-mph beach party.”

The Allen Wolfe Spirit of the Grand Prix Award, handed out on the second day of the event each year until being retired after 2024, is named after the Press-Telegram’s late, legendary auto racing writer.
