Philadelphia Phillies first baseman Bryce Harper returned to the lineup Monday night against the Padres after a stint on the injured list.

Harper was hit by a pitch on the left foot, walked and lined into an unassisted double play as part of a 0-for-2 night in his first game for the Phillies since June 5. Harper returned from a nearly month-long layoff with right wrist inflammation.

The two-time NL MVP and eighttime All-Star was hitting .258 with nine homers, 34 RBIs and eight steals in 57 games before going on the IL. He also missed five games, from May 26 to June 2, with a bruised right elbow.

ASTROS’ PEÑA FRACTURES RIB

Houston Astros shortstop Jeremy Peña has a small fracture in his left rib cage and was placed on the 10-day injured list.

Peña was hit in the ribs by a pitch from Chicago Cubs rookie Cade Horton in the second inning of the Astros’ 7-4 victory on Friday.

Pena is having a breakout season, ranking fourth in MLB with a .322 batting average. He hit .361 in June.

YANKEES’ CRUZ ON IL

The New York Yankees put righthander Fernando Cruz on the 15-day injured list because of a strained left oblique.

Cruz is 2-3 with a 3.00 ERA and two saves. He has not allowed an earned run in 26 of his 32 appeareances and has gone eight outings without giving up a hit.

ORIOLES’ EFLIN OUT

The Baltimore Orioles placed right-hander Zach Eflin on the 15-day injured list with low back discomfort.

Eflin got hurt Saturday during an 11-3 loss to Tampa Bay. He was tagged for four runs and five hits in one inning.

The 31-year-old Eflin, Baltimore’s opening-day starter, is 6-5 with a 5.95 ERA in 12 outings. He also was on the IL from April 8 to May 11 with a right lat strain.

ALL-STAR FUTURES

Seattle switch-pitcher Jurrangelo Cijntje was among nine first-round picks from last year’s amateur draft selected for the All-Star Futures Game in Atlanta’s on July 12.

A 22-year-old from the Netherlands selected with the 15th overall pick, Cijntje is 4-4 with 4.88 ERA in 12 starts and three relief appearances for High-A Everett in his first professional season, striking out 58 and walking 31 in 51 2/3 innings.

He has held 180 batters to a .165 average (26 for 158) with seven home runs pitching right-handed and 42 batters to a .360 average (9 for 25) with two home runs pitching lefthanded.

Among other first-round picks from last year are Colorado first baseman/outfielder Charlie Condon (third), St. Louis shortstop JJ Wetherholt (seventh), Pittsburgh shortstop Konnor Griffin (ninth), Chicago White Sox outfielder Braden Montgomery (12th), New York Mets outfielder Carson Benge (19th), Toronto right-hander Trey Yesavage (20th), Minnesota shortstop Kaelen Culpepper (21st) and Arizona outfielder Slade Caldwell (29th).

There are 17 former first-round picks overall.

San Diego 18-year-old shortstop Leo De Vries is among 13 international prospects selected for the All-Star Futures Game.
