Earlier this week, the Woodland community gathered at the historic old courthouse lawn for the “Concert on Court” event that aimed to celebrate the city’s history, present and future.
Friday evening’s event was sponsored by Yolo County and featured food vendors such as Tacos 911 and Sno Shack, themed bounce houses for kids, free face painting and popcorn, chalk areas, a beer and wine sales fundraiser for the Woodland Food Closet, the Bookmobile truck, and displays from the Woodland Opera House and Yolo County Archives.
The event also featured live music from the local band “Four Barrel.”
Spencer Bowen, the city’s communication and strategic policy manager, shared that he was excited to see people stumble upon the event and stay around for a while.
“We’re celebrating all the cool stuff that’s happened, and there’s a lot of good to come for Woodland,” Bowen said. “Everyone seems to be having a great time, and I’m thankful to my colleagues for helping plan this. I think it’s most encouraging when folks kind of stumble upon this and stay around for a little bit. So that’s been most fun for me.”
Bowen mentioned that the concert event is significant as it celebrates the history of the city with the help of some local organizations. Bowen also highlighted that the sale of beer and wine from the event will help support the Woodland Food Closet, as well as the year-and-a-half production scheduled for the Woodland Opera House.
He shared that the city will finish building the new swim center located at the Woodland Community and Senior Center by the end of the year and that they will also be offering summer programs to youth supported by the city’s Community Services Department.
